The consensus projections across the NFL media are for Penn State’s Tyler Warren to be the first tight end selected in the 2025 NFL Draft. Warren had a massive 2024 season with 104 catches for 1,233 yards with eight touchdowns through the air while helping the Nittany Lions advance into the college football playoff. While Warren is the favorite to be the first tight end selected, some team sources say they like Miami’s Elijah Arroyo and Michigan’s Colston Loveland more than Warren. Yesterday, we reported how multiple sources think Arroyo could rise to be a top-25 pick. Thus, there is a chance that Warren is not the first tight end off the board as some teams like Arroyo and Loveland more.
“We had Colston Loveland first,” said one national scout from an NFC team. “We had Warren second and Arroyo third. But Arroyo has the most upside, has the highest celing, the most ability, and he could crush the spring workouts. He probably will test and work out the best. I think the workouts could push Arroyo to the top.”
Arroyo dealt with injuries for two years before an excellent 2024 season with Cam Ward at quarterback for the Hurricanes. Sources feel that Arroyo is raw to go along with the medical concerns. Loveland impressed in 2023 on Michigan’s National Championship team, but Loveland was held back by a struggling offense and injuries in 2024. Sources wonder why Warren was behind Theo Johnson at Penn State, considering Warren is a much more talented player. Sources also say that all three are not impressive as blockers. Thus, they feel there are some flaws with each player, and it will ultimately be about scheme fit and team preference.
In my latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft, I still have Warren as the first tight end off the board, and that is the consensus, but that could change after the workouts starting with this week’s NFL Scouting Combine.
