Throughout the scouting community, the 2025 NFL Draft is known to be a strong year for defensive line talent. Scouts from across the league are raving about the depth and quality of edge rush and interior defensive line prospects for next April. One tackle prospect who has gotten some first-round projections from the media is Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon. However in speaking with multiple team sources, they had Harmon as a mid-round pick.
“He’s a little limited athletically,” said an AFC director of player personnel. “But he’s moving around better than he did in 2023. He has good strength and physical tools to play the run and can pressure the quarterback with power, but he is inconsistent to finish. I think he’s a third- or fourth-round pick.”
An AFC area scout had a slightly higher view of Harmon, “Don’t think he’s first-rounder, but third or fourth is a bit low.”
Other team sources had Harmon in the day two to mid-round range. Thus far in 2024, Harmon has 42 tackles with five sacks, two forced fumbles, and two passes broken up. At 6-foot-5, 310 pounds, Harmon has quality size for the NFL. Other teams could have Harmon projected higher, but in speaking with multiple team sources they saw Harmon as more of a mid-rounder rather than a first-round pick like some in the media have projected.
