Prospect Summary:
In some of the final years under former head coach Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M produced some excellent recruiting classes landing a number of highly touted recruits with excellent skill sets. Turner was one of those players and he was able to work his way onto the field as a freshman. In his freshman season in 2021, Turner had 14 tackles and 1.5 sacks as a rotational player. A year later he upped his tackle total to 32 with .5 sacks. Turner produced his best season in 2023 when he totaled six sacks with 33 tackles and two forced fumbles. In his final year of college football, Turner had 36 tackles with two sacks and one forced fumble.
As a pass rusher, Turner is a twitchy athlete who ran rush as a power end or move inside to tackle. He has solid quickness for a big end and can close quickly when he breaks free. Turner flashes some strength as a rusher with a nice rip move to get leverage on blockers when he gets on their edges. While Turner has a nice combination of height, weight, speed, and length, he lacks pass rushing moves. He needs to build up a repertoire of moves as Turner is predictable with speed or power rushes. Turner’s small sack total reflects a lack of finish to his plays as he was prone to missing some tackles in the pocket. Turner is too twitched up to miss quarterbacks as much as he does, and he needs to improve at adjusting to moving quarterbacks in order to get more effective and productive.
In the ground game, Turner can set a physical edge as he will scrap and fight at the point of attack. He has length and size to hold his ground when blockers try to go downhill straight at him. Some team sources say that Turner’s instincts are just okay, he doesn’t know how to use his hands, isn’t overly explosive, and needs to get stronger.
In the 2025 NFL Draft, Turner could go as high as the back half of the first round. Some sources say that Turner is too twitched up to get out of the second round. Turner looks like a future starter that could be a decent contributor as a run defender and pass rusher as a power left end. With his size and twitch, he could kick inside to rush as a tackle in the subpackage. He also could grow into being a full-time defensive tackle.
Prospect Comparison:
Jadeveon Clowney. In terms of style of play, Turner reminds me of the older version of Clowney, the solid player in recent years with the Ravens, Browns, and Panthers, but not the explosive physical freak that Clowney was coming out of South Carolina and in his early years with the Texans. Turner has a skill set similar to the older version of Clowney. Both are physical against the runs but lack moves and finish as pass rushers. Like Clowney, I think Turner will be a solid pro but may never produce huge sack totals.
