Prospect Summary:

Jones earned a starting job during his freshman season and has turned in a pair of impressive years to start his collegiate career. In 2023, Jones formed an excellent tackle tandem with Will Campbell to help their quarterback Jayden Daniels produce a massive season that earned Daniels the Heisman Trophy. As a junior, Jones remained at right tackle and had a decent season blocking for Garrett Nussmeier. Jones showed that he is an early-round prospect but is not a dominator and needs development.

As a run blocker, Jones is an asset and can be an effective player at the point of attack. Jones is strong to knock defenders back, and when he latches on, defenders are in serious trouble. They have a hard time shedding blocks, as Jones has the strength to sustain his blocks. On top of struggling to get free, Jones will finish off defenders and punish them at the end of the blocks

In pass protection, Jones has flashes of being capable. However, he only has flashes, and there were consistent issues with him getting beat and giving up pressure in 2024. Jones’s feet can struggle to get depth to cut off the corner from speed rushers, he can allow leverage on outside speed to power, and he gets off balance when his weight gets over his toes. He will sometimes bend at the waist and reach after defenders. Jones will showcase some mean streak and physicality when he gets a defender blocked, but he is not consistent enough on the edge against a quality pass rusher to depend on him keeping his quarterback free of pressure and sacks.

Jones should move inside to right guard in the NFL. As a right tackle, he could have problems with NFL speed rushers and put his quarterback in danger of taking lots of hits and sacks. Inside at guard, the pass protection issues will be mitigated, and he will have better matchups against defensive tackles.

In the 2025 NFL Draft, Jones looks like a day-two prospect who should be viewed as a right guard for the NFL.

Prospect Comparison:

Evan Neal. If Jones stays at right tackle, I think he could have problems blocking on the edge like Neal has a pro. Neal and Jones would be better off moving inside and playing as power right guards.
