2011 NFL Draft Pro Day Results

2011 Pro Day Results: March 10, 2011

Nebraska

Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska Scouting Report
Height: 6-0. Weight: 205.
Projected 40 Time: 4.49.
Combine 40 Time: 4.37.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Benchx225: 16. Vertical: 38. Arm: 30 1/2.
Projected Round (2011): Top 11 Pick.

3/11/11: Prince Amukamara stood on his Combine numbers. The thing worth noting is that the Bengals sent their defensive backs coach to Nebraska’s Pro Day – an indication that they’re interested in Amukamara. It could also mean that they’re looking for a contingency plan if Patrick Peterson is off the board at No. 4 (which obviously means that they’d draft Peterson if he’s there).

Eric Hagg, FS, Nebraska
Height: 6-2. Weight: 206.
Projected 40 Time: 4.56.
Combine 40 Time: 4.64.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.55.
Benchx225: 18. Vertical: 38.5. Arm: 32 7/8.
Projected Round (2011): 4-6.

3/11/11: Eric Hagg had a great Pro Day, as he looked good in the drills in addition to running a 4.55 40. He also improved his vertical by four inches.

Roy Helu, RB, Nebraska
Height: 6-0. Weight: 220.
Projected 40 Time: 4.54.
Combine 40 Time: 4.42.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Benchx225: . Vertical: 36.5. Broad: 9-11.
Projected Round (2011): 4-6.

3/11/11: Roy Helu had an outstanding Combine, so he didn’t run the 40 or anything at his Pro Day. He weighed in a pound heavier.

Niles Paul, WR/KR/PR, Nebraska
Height: 6-1. Weight: 225.
Projected 40 Time: 4.52.
Combine 40 Time: 4.59.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.42.
Vertical: 36. Broad: 9-9. Hand: 8 7/8.
Projected Round (2011): 4-6.

3/11/11: Niles Paul had a miserable Combine 40, so his 4.42 really helps. He also improved his vertical from 34.5 to 36 inches.

Mississippi State

Pernell McPhee, DE, Mississippi State
Height: 6-3. Weight: 274.
Projected 40 Time: 4.80.
Combine 40 Time: 4.94.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.87.
Benchx225: . Vertical: 28.5. Arm: 34 3/8.
Projected Round (2011): 3-4.

Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi State Scouting Report
Height: 6-6. Weight: 311.
Projected 40 Time: 5.13.
Combine 40 Time: 5.20.
Pro Day 40 Time: 5.29.
Benchx225: 23. Arm: 35 3/8.
Projected Round (2011): Top 25 Pick.

3/11/11: Derek Sherrod actually ran a worse 40 at his Pro Day, but that doesn’t matter. Sherrod looked terrific in the drills, prompting the Sporting News’ Russ Lande to declare that Sherrod will be a first-round pick. The Colts, Ravens and Bears have all shown major interest in Sherrod.

Chris White, ILB, Mississippi State
Height: 6-3. Weight: 237.
Projected 40 Time: 4.77.
Combine 40 Time: 4.68.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.72.
Benchx225: 17. Vertical: 34. Arm: 30 7/8.
Projected Round (2011): 5-7.

K.J. Wright, OLB, Mississippi State
Height: 6-4. Weight: 242.
Projected 40 Time: 4.73.
Combine 40 Time: 4.70.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.73.
Benchx225: 20. Vertical: 34. Arm: 34 7/8.
Projected Round (2011): 3-4.

3/11/11: Mississippi State must have a slow track. Like Derek Sherrod, K.J. Wright had a worse 40. He did, however, improve his vertical by two inches.

Miami

Damien Berry, RB, Miami
Height: 5-10. Weight: 206.
Projected 40 Time: 4.40.
Combine 40 Time: 4.59.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.45.
Benchx225: 23. Vertical: 33.5. Broad: 10-0.
Projected Round (2011): 7-FA.

3/11/11: Damien Berry shed five pounds since the Combine. That helped improve his 40 time, as he dropped down to a 4.45. For a running back who was benched late in the year, every little bit helps.

Graig Cooper, RB, Miami
Height: 5-10. Weight: 205.
Projected 40 Time: 4.42.
Combine 40 Time: 4.63.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.60.
Benchx225: . Vertical: . Broad: .
Projected Round (2011): 7-FA.

Brandon Harris, CB, Miami
Height: 5-10. Weight: 191.
Projected 40 Time: 4.41.
Combine 40 Time: 4.43.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Benchx225: 13. Vertical: 35.5. Arm: 30 5/8.
Projected Round (2011): 1-2.

3/11/11: Brandon Harris didn’t run the 40 at his Pro Day. He actually had a worse vertical leap (34.5) than he did at the Combine.

Cory Nelms, CB, Miami
Height: 5-11. Weight: 191.
Projected 40 Time: N/A.
Combine 40 Time: DNP.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.39.
Benchx225: 14. Vertical: 37. Arm: .
Projected Round (2011): 7-FA.

5/13/10: Cory Nelms, a backup corner, made a name for himself during Miami’s Pro Day. He ran a 4.39 40 and notched a 37-inch vertical.

Oregon

Jeff Maehl, WR, Oregon
Height: 6-1. Weight: 189.
Projected 40 Time: 4.58.
Combine 40 Time: 4.62.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.65.
Vertical: 33.5. Broad: 10-1. Hand: 9 1/8.
Projected Round (2011): 5-7.

3/11/11: The highlight of Jeff Maehl’s Pro Day was a 10-foot-1 broad jump. Unfortunately, Maehl ran a worse 40 and couldn’t complete the 3-cone drill because he kept falling down. Maehl is a late-round possession receiver at best. I like him because he’s a high-effort guy, but I’m not sure he can separate from coverage.

Casey Matthews, ILB, Oregon Scouting Report
Height: 6-1. Weight: 232.
Projected 40 Time: 4.76.
Combine 40 Time: DNP.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.79.
Benchx225: . Vertical: 32.5. Arm: 31 1/2.
Projected Round (2011): 3-4.

3/11/11: Casey Matthews had just a mediocre Pro Day, but no one was really expecting a great workout. Matthews, like his brother, is much better in games.

Kenny Rowe, DE/OLB, Oregon
Height: 6-2. Weight: 230.
Projected 40 Time: 4.68.
Combine 40 Time: DNP.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.86.
Benchx225: 20. Vertical: 32.5. Arm: .
Projected Round (2011): 7-FA.

3/11/11: You typically want to see explosion out of a pass-rushing linebacker. Kenny Rowe’s 40 (4.86) and vertical (32.5) seem to indicate that he has no explosion.

California

Chris Conte, S, California
Height: 6-2. Weight: 199.
Projected 40 Time: 4.56.
Combine 40 Time: 4.56.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.55.
Benchx225: 18. Vertical: 35.5. Arm: 30 1/2.
Projected Round (2011): 5-7.

Darian Hagan, CB, California
Height: 6-0. Weight: 180.
Projected 40 Time: 4.57.
Combine 40 Time: DNP.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.59.
Benchx225: 5. Vertical: 34. Arm: .
Projected Round (2011): 7-FA.

Cameron Jordan, DE/DT, California
Height: 6-4. Weight: 286.
Projected 40 Time: 4.94.
Combine 40 Time: 4.71.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Benchx225: 25. Vertical: 31. Arm: 35.
Projected Round (2011): Top 18 Pick.

3/11/11: Cameron Jordan had an outstanding Pro Day. He was even asked to drop into coverage by one of the coaches.

Portland State

Julius Thomas, TE, Portland State
Height: 6-5. Weight: 248.
Projected 40 Time: 4.67.
Combine 40 Time: 4.63.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Benchx225: 16. Vertical: 35.5.
Projected Round (2011): 4-6.

3/11/11: Julius Thomas didn’t run the 40 at his Pro Day. Instead, he looked good in the drills for the 14 teams that traveled to Portland State to see the former basketball player’s workout.
