Season so far

Every game in order, Week 1 first. Opp. rank = where I had the opponent in my power rankings in effect at kickoff. Recaps are mine, word for word.

Opponent's group in my power rankings at kickoff: Group A Group B Group C Group D Group F

Carolina Panthers

Week 1Sun, Sep 13 vs. Chicago Bears Opp. rank #12Group B
L 37-59 Line +3 ATS: Did not cover (-19)

Bears 59, PANTHERS 37 (CAR +3). The Bears made a couple of mistakes to allow the Panthers to hang around. It was 21-all, but Chicago's offense was far too much for a Carolina defense that couldn't stop anything the opposition was doing. 552-478 CHI, 7.9-7.7 CHI

Week 2Sun, Sep 20 at Atlanta Falcons Opp. rank #29Group F
W 34-3 Line -2.5 ATS: Covered (+28.5)

Panthers 34, FALCONS 3 (ATL +2.5). The Falcons had a pathetic offense that made lots of mistakes the entire game. Bryce Young made some great throws in the second half. 340-286 CAR, 5.7-4.3 CAR

Week 3Sun, Sep 27 at Cleveland Browns Opp. rank #29Group F
L 18-21 Line -2.5 ATS: Did not cover (-5.5)

BROWNS 21, Panthers 18 (CLE +2.5). The Panthers were the better team in this game, but squandered some drives by failing on fourth down, giving the Browns points on one occasion. The Panthers took an 18-13 lead late in the game and sealed the victory, but a roughing-the-passer penalty helped the Browns get a win. 360-259 CAR, 4.9-4.1 CAR

Week 4Sun, Oct 4 vs. Detroit Lions Opp. rank #9Group B
W 32-26 Line +3.5 ATS: Covered (+9.5)

PANTHERS 32, Lions 26 (CAR +3.5). Bryce Young was on fire, and Tetairoa McMillan couldn't be stopped. The Panthers were up two touchdowns to begin the fourth quarter before a garbage-time Detroit score. 452-445 DET, 6.6-6.2 DET

Week 5Bye week

Philadelphia Eagles

Week 1Sun, Sep 13 vs. Washington Redskins Opp. rank #24Group D
W 24-22 Line -4.5 ATS: Did not cover (-2.5)

EAGLES 24, Redskins 22 (PHI -4.5). The Eagles hit some big plays early, but that stopped when Jalen Hurts saw lots of pressure. The Redskins nearly caught up, but lost on the 2-point conversion being short. 318-295 PHI, 6.0-4.4 PHI

Week 2Sun, Sep 20 at Tennessee Titans Opp. rank #30Group F
W 24-20 Line -7 ATS: Did not cover (-3)

Eagles 24, TITANS 20 (TEN +7). The Eagles nearly gave this game away with an effective pick-six on the first drive and some big plays surrendered by the defense in a very hot game. The Titans went up 20-17, but Jalen Hurts led a game-winning drive in the final minutes. 341-291 PHI, 5.7-4.7 TEN

Week 3Mon, Sep 28 at Chicago Bears Opp. rank #18Group C
L 7-27 Line -4.5 ATS: Did not cover (-24.5)

BEARS 27, Eagles 7 (CHI +4.5). Case Keenum threw all over the Eagles secondary. Saquon Barkley ran well in the first half, but Barkley was given just four carries in the second half. 375-248 CHI, 5.4-5.3 CHI

Week 4Sun, Oct 4 vs. Los Angeles Rams Opp. rank #3Group A
L 20-24 Line +3 ATS: Did not cover (-1)

Rams 24, EAGLES 20 (PHI +3). The Eagles played terribly for most of the game, but had a 20-10 lead because the Rams made so many mistakes. The Eagles couldn't maintain their lead because they were 0-of-12 on third down. The Rams stormed back with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. 415-172 LAR, 5.4-3.0 LAR

Week 5Sun, Oct 11 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (neutral) Opp. rank #4Group A
L 17-19 Line +7.5 ATS: Covered (+5.5)

Jaguars 19, Eagles 17 (JAX -7.5). The Jaguars outplayed the Eagles in all three facets, but constantly shot themselves in the foot with untimely penalties. The Eagles scored no points in the second half until a final-minute drive, but a great kickoff return set up Jacksonville with the decisive field goal. 408-232 JAX, 6.0-3.9 JAX
