The 2024 NFL Draft is known to be a strong year for the wide receiver position. North Carolina wideout Dez Walker has been one prospect who has received some first-round projections in the media. He is known to be extremely fast and also has quality size at 6-foot-1, 197 pounds. While Walker has some putting him in Round 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft, multiple team sources said they see Walker as a second-day prospect.
In speaking with sources from an NFC playoff team that has drafted very well, they had Walker in Round 3 of the 2024 NFL Draft. If Walker had a good performance at the Senior Bowl, that could have really helped him, but he consistently dropped passes all week. An area scout for an AFC team had this to say about Walker: “I was thinking he would go in the second, but he had a lot of drops. They’re banking on he flys in the 40.”
Another AFC area scout said, “He’s raw. I’d say three is probably a good landing spot.”
Walker definitely needs a big performance at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine. On top of running as fast as expected in the 40-yard dash, Walker needs to show improved hands in the field work. Dropped passes are plaguing his draft stock around the league, so showing that he is making progress in that regard would be very beneficial. As it stands, it sounds like Walker is a second-day prospect for the 2024 NFL Draft with teams and not viewed as a future first-round pick.
