As new regime starts to take over the New England Patriots after the long reign of Bill Belichick, figuring out the quarterback position is the top priority for new head coach Jerod Mayo and director of scouting Eliot Wolf. The Patriots are in the market for an upgrade over Mac Jones, who disappointed over the past few seasons. With the third-overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the Patriots are in prime position to land their future franchise quarterback. Luckily for the New England, the 2024 NFL Draft is strong at the quarterback position. with three high first-round options.
USC’s Caleb Williams, LSU’s Jayden Daniels and North Carolina’s Drake Maye are the top quarterbacks for the 2024 NFL Draft, and some teams have them rated in different orders. While the media is saying Williams is the lock for No. 1, some teams like Daniels and Maye more. Sources with New England told WalterFootball.com that they feel all three are worthy of being top-three picks. Those sources have Williams at the top, Daniels second, and Maye third. That ranking order, however, could change after events like including the combine, pro days, and pre-draft visits.
The Chicago Bears appear likely to take Williams at No. 1 in the 2024 NFL Draft, and it is safely assumed that assumed the Commanders will take a quarterback at No. 2. While the Patriots have Williams and Daniels higher, they do really like Maye and feel he will be a good starter as well. Thus, New England is in position to land its future starter from one of the three-top quarterback prospects, with Williams, Daniels and Maye being the organization’s current order of preference.
