2014 NCAA Tournament Picks – Final Four

NCAA Tournament Picks: Final Four
No. 1S Florida vs. No. 4E Michigan State
Michigan State, as I’ve stated in my East region picks, is finally coming together. The longer they go in the NCAA Tournament, the more dangerous they’ll be, given that they’ll have time to gel together. However, Florida is a team that has enjoyed more time as a group. The Gators went on this run after getting a player back of their own, and they’ve since established themselves as the top team in college basketball. The best team doesn’t always win, but I like Florida’s chances of getting to the Final Four and having a great shot at winning it all. Besides, there are just too many people picking the Spartans – including Barack Obama – for them to win the title.
2014 NCAA Tournament Pick: No. 1S Florida
No. 1W Arizona vs. No. 4M Louisville
Arizona’s is a great team that has an outstanding coach to get the most out of them, but they’ve had some sketchy losses this year. Going down to Cal was ridiculous. The Wildcats also failed to win their conference tournament, which is a big deal in terms of projecting NCAA Tournament success. Arizona’s offense isn’t great, so Louisville should be able to shut it down and prevail.

No. 1S Florida vs. No. 4M Louisville
I know I sound like Ryan from the Office, but I’ve developed a formula that helps me predict NCAA Tournament winners. It’s not great for picking individual winners, but it factors in a bunch of things that most NCAA Tournament champions have shared over the years. It said that Kentucky was 5.35 points better than anyone in 2012, and it was right. It told me that Louisville was a whopping 9.66 points better than anyone this past March, and it was right. This year? There’s not much of a disparity unfortunately. Louisville and Florida are the top teams, and yet there’s just a 1.04-point difference – with the Cardinals being on top.
I’m trusting my formula and picking Louisville. The formula says to, and the team can exploit a weakness of Florida’s. No team is better at forcing turnovers than the Cardinals, and yet the Gators are 136th in offensive turnover percentage.
