These are notes I took while studying each NCAA Tournament team. Most of this is unedited. I’ll have a more coherent breakdown in my NCAA Tournament picks.

    Florida (26-7)

EXPERIENCE: Top six scorers: Jr, So, Sr, Sr, Sr, So

WHY TO LOVE: Elite offense (12th).

    Good defense (36th).

Balanced scoring: Four players average 11 points or more.

9-2 road record. Quality road wins: Vanderbilt, Georgia, Xavier, Florida State, Tennessee.

WHY TO HATE: Only three conference wins of 15+ points.

NCAA Champions average 76+ ppg and win by 10+ points. Florida averages 72.1 ppg and wins by 9.3 ppg.

    Georgia (21-11)

EXPERIENCE: Top six scorers: Jr, Jr, Jr, Sr, Jr, Sr

WHY TO LOVE: Above-average offense (42nd).

Experience: The top six scorers are all upperclassmen.

Head coach Mark Fox took Nevada to the second round of the NCAA Tournament twice.

7-4 road record. Quality road wins: Tennessee.

WHY TO HATE: Bad offense (80th).

    Kentucky (24-8)

EXPERIENCE: Top six scorers: Fr, Fr, Fr, Jr, Jr, Sr

WHY TO LOVE: Elite offense (8th).

    Great defense (25th).

Balanced scoring: Four players average 10.9 ppg or more.

Fulfills all five requisites in the Portrait of a Champion (returning head coach, scored 76 ppg, 10+ margin of victory, in the tournament last year, seeded 1-5).

WHY TO HATE: Brandon Knight is a terrific player, but he’s a freshman point guard. They usually don’t do well in the NCAA Tournament unless they’re on a No. 1 seed.

Kentucky’s three leading scorers are all freshmen.

4-7 road record. Quality road wins: Louisville, Tennessee.

Only three conference wins of 15+ points.

    Tennessee (19-14)

EXPERIENCE: Top six scorers: Jr, Fr, Jr, Sr, Sr, Sr

WHY TO LOVE: Above average defense (49th).

Experience: Five of the top six scorers are upperclassmen.

6-5 road record. Quality road wins: Vanderbilt, Georgia, Pitt.

WHY TO HATE: Mediocre offense (72nd).

Lazy team that doesn’t take inferior competition seriously.

    Vanderbilt (23-9)

EXPERIENCE: Top six scorers: So, Jr, Jr, Jr, Jr, Jr

WHY TO LOVE: Elite offense (13th).

Balanced scoring: Four players average 10.8 ppg or more.

There are no prominent seniors, but five of the top six scorers are juniors.

5-5 road record. Quality road wins: Georgia.

WHY TO HATE: Mediocre defense (73rd).
