These are notes I took while studying each NCAA Tournament team. Most of this is unedited. I’ll have a more coherent breakdown in my NCAA Tournament picks.

    Richmond (27-7)

EXPERIENCE: Top six scorers: Sr, Sr, Sr, So, Jr, Fr

WHY TO LOVE: Richmond is one of the best three-point shooting teams in the nation (40.7%).

Four of Richmond’s top five scorers are upperclassmen. Three are seniors.

    10-3 road record.

WHY TO HATE: Average offense (53rd).

    Average defense (54th).

This team hasn’t won an NCAA Tournament game since 1998. Head coach Chris Mooney has never won a tournament game.

    Quality road wins: None.

    Temple (25-7)

EXPERIENCE: Top six scorers: Jr, Sr, Jr, So, So, Fr

WHY TO LOVE: Good defense (37th).

    Above-average offense (46th).

    7-4 road record.

WHY TO HATE: Junior forward Scootie Randall (11.6 ppg) missed the Atlantic-10 Tournament with an injury. If he comes back for the NCAA Tournament, he may not be 100 percent.

Another injury: Center Michael Eric (7.1 ppg, 5.9 rpg) is out for the year.

    No quality road wins.

Fran Dunphy is an awful NCAA Tournament head coach; his record is an abysmal 1-12.

    Xavier (24-7)

EXPERIENCE: Top six scorers: Jr, So, Jr, Sr, Sr, So

WHY TO LOVE: Great offense (30th).

Balanced scoring: Four players averaging 10.8 ppg or more.

Experience: Four of the top five scorers are upperclassmen.

8-4 road record. Quality road wins: Georgia, Richmond.

Head coach Chris Mack has only one NCAA Tournament appearance, but led Xavier to the Sweet 16 during that trip last year.

WHY TO HATE: Mediocre defense (59th).

Lost opening conference tournament game. No team that lost its opening conference-tournament game has won the national championship since 1985.
