2014 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Sean Kilpatrick

Position: Shooting Guard

Size: 6-4, 210

School: Cincinnati, Senior

Strengths:
  • All-around scorer
  • Strength
  • Physical driver
  • Pull-up jumper
  • Three-point shooting
  • NBA range from deep
  • Catch-and-shoot ability
  • Quick release

  • Weaknesses:
  • Volume shooter
  • Shot selection
  • Too often settles for jump shots
  • Lacks ideal NBA athleticism
  • Not a great defender
  • Length
  • Explosiveness at the rim

  • Summary: Despite being an All-American candidate, Sean Kilpatrick is a borderline second-round pick. He has proven to be a terrific scorer at the college level, but his lack of athleticism and reliance on his outside shot doesn’t translate well for the next level.

Player Comparison: Jodie Meeks. Similar in size and strength, neither Meeks nor Kilpatrick possess the ideal athleticism for the next level. Each guy was a prolific scorer at the college level and relies on his outside shooting. Meeks has managed to find his niche in the NBA, and if Kilpatrick is going to do the same, he will need to follow a similar path.
