2013 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Solomon Hill


Position: Small Forward

Size: 6-7, 220

School: Arizona, Senior


Strengths:

Slashing ability

Smooth spin move off the bounce

Can post up smaller defenders

Turnaround jump shot

Mid-range jumper

3-point range

Offensive versatility

Can rebound and then lead the break

Works hard on the defensive end

Great team player

Rarely forces the issue

Basketball IQ

Weaknesses:

Lacks NBA-level athleticism

Explosiveness

Tighten up ball handling in iso situations

Is he quick enough to guard NBA small forwards?

Summary: Hill has put together a solid 4-year career at Arizona, but doesn’t particularly stand out in any specific area. He does a little bit of everything to help his team, but is simply not an NBA-level athlete. Because of that, Hill seems destined for the second round.

Player Comparison: Sam Young. Like Hill, Young had a productive collegiate career, but his lack of athleticism has hindered him at the next level, which is why he is struggling to find a regular spot in the rotation. I see Hill being a similar player; the 11th or 12th man on a roster who will find it difficult to see steady minutes.
