2013 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Otto Porter

Position: Small Forward

Size: 6-8, 205

School: Georgetown, Sophomore

Strengths:
  • Athleticism
  • Length
  • Rebounding
  • Active defender
  • Can guard multiple positions
  • Getting in passing lanes
  • Capable shot-blocker
  • Great feel for the game
  • Mid-range jumper
  • Turnaround jump shot
  • Three-point range
  • Good passer
  • Rarely forces shots
  • Basketball IQ

  • Weaknesses:
  • Consistency with his three-point shot
  • Free throw shooting
  • Must get stronger
  • Breaking down defenders off the bounce

  • Summary: Porter has the makings of being a tremendous role player at the next level since he can do a little bit of everything to contribute on the floor. It is unlikely Porter will ever be a 20 point per game scorer, but he rebounds, passes the ball well, and plays great defense. As a result, he should be a lottery pick.

Player Comparison: Nicolas Batum. Batum has developed into a solid all-around player who can affect the game even when he is not scoring the basketball. Porter should find a similar niche in the league due to his versatility and could become a solid role player who can do the little things to help a team be successful.
