2023 NBA Offseason Grade – Phoenix Suns

The Suns simply nailed this offseason given that they were already contenders, but have improved significantly. I still think that the Suns should have let Monty Williams get one shot at a title, but Frank Vogel is a winning coach too. The Bradley Beal/Chris Paul trade was huge, and Beal gives the Suns three of the 15 biggest scoring talents in the NBA. Phoenix then signed Eric Gordon to a cheap contract to be the guy off the bench, signed Yuta Watanabe, who is one of the elite shooters in the league, re-signed sixth man Damian Lee, and signed Eubanks for big-man depth. To me, the Suns really need to find a playmaking guard as a starter or a valuable bench piece, but their offseason has been ridiculous.

Signings:

  • Eric Gordon- Grade: A
  • Drew Eubanks- Grade: B
  • Damian Lee- Grade: A-
  • Yuta Watanabe- Grade: A

Trades:

  • Bradley Beal- Grade: A+

Suns’ 2023 NBA Draft – Grade: C

  • No. 52: Toumani Camara, F, Dayton

I actually had Camara in my final mock draft, and although he was overshadowed by Da’Ron Holmes, who stayed in school, Camara has what it takes to be a solid reserve big man. The Suns have no time to develop talent, so they have to assume the senior can help them as a rookie.
