2015-16 Team Salary: Approximately $52.3 million
NBA Offseason Team Needs:
1. Power Forward: The Kings have tried numerous different players at power forward in an attempt to find a frontcourt running mate for DeMarcus Cousins. Derrick Williams is a restricted free agent with a qualifying offer of $8.7 million, which is mighty expensive for someone who has drastically underperformed for a former second-overall pick, while Jason Thompson and Carl Landry should be nothing more than role players. Sacramento holds the sixth pick in the 2015 NBA Draft and will likely be targeting a power forward like Kristpas Porzingis or Willie Cauley-Stein to help fill this void.
2. Point Guard: Darren Collison is more of a short-term solution at the point, so Sacramento should actively be seeking an upgrade. Finding a potential trade partner seems like the best solution (I think the Kings should make a run at acquiring Ty Lawson from Denver.)
3. Be Aggressive: I already mentioned the Ty Lawson possibility but expect the Kings’ front office to be extremely aggressive in the trade market. Whether it is shopping the fairly reasonable veteran contracts of Thompson or Landry, or Collison along with a young piece like Stauskas, or the sixth overall pick; Sacramento is going try their hardest to make a major splash this summer and acquire a star-caliber player. The Kings should do so cautiously though.
