2017 NFL Free Agency: Star rating is out of five. Age listing as of Sept. 1, 2017.

  1. Martellus Bennett, TE, Packers. Age: 30.
    Claimed by Patriots

Martellus Bennett turns 30 in March, but he’s still a very effective player. He caught 55 passes for 701 yards and seven touchdowns this past season, as he’s had to be the primary tight end with Rob Gronkowski injured. He also blocked well.

  2. Gary Barnidge, TE, Browns. Age: 31.
The Browns drafted David Njoku, but that didn’t mean that they had to cut Gary Barnidge. Njoku isn’t ready to play, while Barnidge is still a very effective player. He caught 79 passes for 1,043 yards and nine touchdowns in 2015. His production dropped to 55-612-2 last year, but that was because of poor quarterback play. Barnidge could be a solid addition for a team needing talent at tight end to make a playoff push. Teams that fit are the Steelers, Texans, Dolphins, Lions and Broncos.

  3. Jared Cook, TE, Packers. Age: 30.
    Signed with Raiders

Jared Cook has teased everyone with his high talent level over the years, but he’s ultimately disappointed everyone – at least until the divisional round of the playoffs. He dominated the game, and he made one of the greatest catches in NFL history to set up the win for Green Bay. Cook, however, turns 30 this offseason, so time is running out for him.

  4. Trey Burton (RFA), TE, Eagles. Age: 25.
    Tendered by Eagles (2nd round)

The sky is the limit for Trey Burton, who hasn’t been overly productive because he’s stuck behind Zach Ertz. However, Burton has produced when Ertz has been hurt, proving that he’s a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. Just 25, Burton has a ton of potential.

  5. Jack Doyle, TE, Colts. Age: 27.
    Re-signed with Colts

Jack Doyle ruled in some games last year, serving as a reliable security blanket for Andrew Luck, especially when Dwayne Allen was out of the lineup. Doyle finished with 59 catches for 584 yards and five touchdowns.

  6. Luke Willson, TE, Seahawks. Age: 27.
    Re-signed with Seahawks

Luke Willson hasn’t been able to do much the past couple of seasons because of Jimmy Graham, but he definitely has talent, and it could be argued that he’s capable of starting for some team.

  7. Ladarius Green, TE, Steelers. Age: 27.
Ladarius Green’s career has been extremely unfortunate. He never had a chance in San Diego because of Antonio Gates, and his concussion issues prevented him from ever emerging in Pittsburgh. The Steelers have given up on him despite not having anything but Jesse James at the position, which is a horrible sign for his long-term outlook. Hopefully he can eventually recover. There’s still time, as he’s only 27.

  8. Jordan Cameron, TE, Dolphins. Age: 29.
    Announced retirement

Jordan Cameron probably doesn’t deserve two stars, but I wanted to do a write-up for him. Cameron played in only three games this past season because of a concussion that was so severe that he’s contemplating retirement. Cameron caught 80 passes for 917 yards and seven touchdowns in 2013, but his combined stats in the next three years haven’t matched that.

  9. Dennis Pitta, TE, Ravens. Age: 32.
Dennis Pitta probably should be listed as a 1.5-star free agent because of his injuries, but I thought I’d give him one final write-up. Pitta suffered what could be a career-ending hip injury five days ago. Perhaps he’ll come back eventually, but not this year. That is unlikely however, as he turns 32 in June and has an extensive injury history.
