Carson Beck Not Getting 1st Round Grades

Rolled Newspaper bearing title: "NFL HOT PRESS"

Entering the 2024 college football season, Georgia’s Carson Beck was one of the top quarterback prospects for the 2025 NFL Draft. In his first season as a starter, Beck led the Bulldogs to a season with only one loss, and he was on fire late in the season. He completed 72.4 percent of his passes for 3,941 yards with 24 touchdowns and six interceptions. Listed at 6-foot-4, 220 pounds with a powerful arm, Beck looked like a real candidate to be a high first-round pick in 2025. However, Beck has struggled this season and has really hurt his standing with NFL teams. In speaking with sources at eight different teams, none had a first-round grade on Beck. They all had him graded as a mid-round backup, and some had a warm designation, meaning he has developmental starting talent.

“I destroyed him in my report,” said an AFC director of player personnel. “He looks afraid, tough position to play scared. He can throw it a mile, and is capable of shredding defenses with time, but he’s slow to recognize coverage, ges tunnel vision, is reckless with the ball, can be inconsistent in terms of accuracy, struggles versus the rush, and is terrified to get hit.”

Another NFC director of player personnel had a similar description of Beck, “He’s jumpy in he pocket, doesn’t look confident as the pocket shrinks, and adversity can make him start to melt. Only second-year starter as well.”

One team source said they gave Beck a fourth-round grade. An NFC national scout had him similar, “I had him graded as a backup, but quarterbacks always get pushed up.” Some felt Beck should and would go back to school. While that might take away one prospect, in my latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft, there were still four quarterbacks going in the first round. Beck clearly has a good skill set, but teams don’t see Beck as a first-rounder nearing the end of the college football season.
