Ximenes Receiving Day 2 Grades

A year ago, a small-school defensive end prospect became one of the hotter prospects in the 2018 NFL Draft. UTSA’s Marcus Davenport enjoyed a lot of media hype, with some draft analysts projecting him to be a top-10 pick. WalterFootball.com heard from team sources that Davenport was more of a mid- to late first-round pick, and he ended up going in the teens after the Saints traded up for him. This year, another small-school defensive end who has created some buzz is Old Dominion’s Oshane Ximines. WalterFootball.com was first to feature Ximines in preseason rankings as a pro prospect. Some in the media have projected Ximines in the first round, but in speaking with multiple team sources, they are projecting Ximines to be a second-day pick.
Four different sources said they had Ximines graded on Day 2. Some thought he could go in the second round and others had him in Round 3. They also said that Ximines does not have the size/speed skill set that Davenport has. According to NFL teams’ preseason data provided by team sources, Ximines checks in at 6-foot-3, 252 pounds. He has 32.75-inch arms, 9.5-inch hands and a wingspan of 78.5 inches. He is said to run the 40-yard dash in 4.65 seconds.
Ximines has been productive for Old Dominion this season, recording 56 tackles with 16.5 tackles for a loss, 10 sacks, two forced fumbles, two passes batted and one interception. In 2017, he recorded 44 tackles with 14 tackles for a loss, 8.5 sacks, three passes batted and four forced fumbles. He notched 7.5 sacks as a sophomore and five as a freshman.
Ximines will probably be participating in the Senior Bowl or East-West Shrine Game, and he could improve his grade by dominating at an all-star game. Based on his play in college though, Ximines is receiving second-day grades from NFL teams.
