2021 NFL Draft Stock Up

Ja’Marr Chase, WR, LSU
While DeVonta Smith dominated the headlines for a time en route to winning the Heisman Trophy and leading his team to a National Championship, the consensus among NFL teams is that Chase is still the top wide receiver prospect for the 2021 NFL Draft. They still view Chase as a high first-rounder. With teams like the Jets and Dolphins needing receiver help, Chase has a chance at ending up as a top-three pick. Teams around the league don’t expect Chase to be available late in the top 10, so he looks safe to be the first receiver taken in the 2021 NFL Draft.

James Hudson, OT, Cincinnati
Hudson could be a nice value pick on Day 2 of the 2021 NFL Draft. He has a good skill set that includes size, quickness and athleticism. Hudson started out his collegiate career at Michigan before transferring to Cincinnati. With the Bearcats, he became a good edge protector and solid contributor in the ground game. The 6-foot-4, 302-pounder also could be a candidate to move inside to guard at the next level. He could be a solid second-day pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Greg Newsome II, CB, Northwestern
Newsome has a really good skill set and toughness. Team sources say Newsome has excellent technique and always stays in phase while shutting down everyone he faces. Newsome could slide to the second or third round because he dealt with a lot of injuries in college and there are some concerns about his long speed. Newsome will need to work on not grabbing as much in the NFL, but the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder could be a steal from Day 2 of the 2021 NFL Draft if he is able to put the injury issues behind him.

Jayson Oweh, OLB, Penn State
Oweh flashed some edge-rush potential over his career with Penn State. In 2019, he totaled five sacks and 21 tackles. Oweh made 38 tackles in 2020, but he didn’t notch a sack. The 6-foot-5, 252-pounder could stand to get stronger and become a more well-rounded player in the NFL. But with his speed and athleticism, he could be a dangerous designated pass rusher early in his career before developing into being a solid three-down starter.

Dan Moore, OT, Texas A&M
Team sources say Moore helped himself at the Senior Bowl by showing the ability to handle himself on the edge. They feel Moore could be a starting right tackle in the NFL because he has the strength to be a good contributor as a run blocker and enough quickness alongside the necessary athleticism to block on the edge. Moore was a 3-year starter with the Aggies, so he enters the NFL with a lot of experience from facing some of the best competition college football has to offer in the SEC West. Teams think Moore could become a good starter and end up being a nice value from Day 2 of the 2021 NFL Dreaft.

2021 NFL Draft Stock Down

Dayo Odeyinbgo, DE, Vanderbilt
Back in January, The Athletic’s Dane Brugler broke the unfortunate news that Odeyingbo tore an ACL during workouts. That is a crushing blow to Odeyingbo’s hopes of being a first-round pick because the injury could cause him to miss part of his rookie season along and should add a significant medical issue to his draft report. Prior to the injury, team sources thought Odeyingbo was a top-50 pick and as a high second-rounder. Due to playing a premium position, he had a shot at sneaking into the first round. Odeyingbo would be fortunate to still go in the second round after the ACL tear and is more likely to be a mid-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Andre Cisco, S, Syracuse
Cisco tore an ACL in a pre-game collsion partway into the 2020 season, knocking him out for the rest of the year. Given the time elasped, he may not be able to work out before the 2021 NFL Draft, but if his rehab goes well, he could still be ready for the start of the 2021 season. The safety class is deep and talented, including lots of good second-daytalent, so Cisco could be in store for a slide into the third round.
