October 2023 – Trades and Signings
Eagles acquire S Kevin Byard from Titans for 2024 fifth- and sixth-round draft picks, S Terrell Edmunds
I’ve been calling the Eagles overrated for good reason. They’re 6-1, but almost rank outside the top 10 in net EPA. They’re 17th in defense because of their inability to cover. They had to find someone to help in the secondary, which would explain this trade.
Kevin Byard has been one of the better safeties in the NFL in recent years. That may have changed, given that he’s 30 now, however. Byard is currently having a down year, but that doesn’t mean that he can’t rebound in a new situation. Either way, Byard will be a huge upgrade next to Reed Blankenship for a very reasonable price. I love this trade for the Eagles.
As for the Titans, it’s smart of them to know that they needed to begin the rebuilding process. I think they could have gotten a bit more for Byard, but he is 30, so the compensation wouldn’t have been much more.
