Oklahoma
Jon Cooper, C, Oklahoma
Height: 6-2. Weight: 291.
Projected 40 Time: 5.09.
Combine 40 Time: 5.17.
Pro Day 40 Time: 5.09.
Benchx225: 32. Arm: 31 1/4.
Projected Round (2009): 6-7.
1/8/09: A member of the All-Big XII Second Team.
5/26/08: In his second full year as Oklahoma’s starting center, Jon Cooper was voted to the All-Big XII first team by some publications. Cooper started 26 of 27 games the past two seasons.
Nic Harris, SS/OLB, Oklahoma
Height: 6-2. Weight: 234.
Projected 40 Time: 4.55.
Combine 40 Time: 4.78.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.83.
Benchx225: . Vertical: .
Projected Round (2009): 3.
1/14/09: An AP All-America third-teamer, Nic Harris could be targeted in the third round by the Patriots. He seems like the sort of strong safety-linebacker tweener that they like.
12/14/08: A linebacker-safety tweener, but then again, so was Wesley Woodyard, and I think he’s working out just fine. Harris had 64 tackles and six passes broken up this season.
5/19/08: Nic Harris had 74 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and two interceptions. His 40 time will hurt him if he runs in the mid-4.6s.
2007: Nic Harris, a key component of Oklahoma’s secondary, is exceptional at locking down against the run. He started eight games as a sophomore, registering three sacks and four picks.
Lendy Holmes, FS, Oklahoma
Height: 6-0. Weight: 206.
Projected 40 Time: 4.51.
Combine 40 Time: 4.71.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.65.
Benchx225: . Vertical: 35.
Projected Round (2009): 7.
12/14/08: With 79 tackles, five picks and four passes broken up, Lendy Holmes was able to secure a spot on the All-Big XII Second Team.
5/17/08: Lendy Holmes missed the Fiesta Bowl because he was academically ineligible.
2007: You have to love a tall corner with mid-4.4 speed, but Lendy Holmes was responsible for two long Tulsa touchdowns in September 2007.
Phil Loadholt, OT, Oklahoma
Height: 6-8. Weight: 332.
Projected 40 Time: 5.36.
Combine 40 Time: 5.54.
Pro Day 40 Time: 5.45.
Benchx225: 26. Arm: 32.
Projected Round (2009): 2.
1/6/09: A member of the All-Big XII First Team and AP All-America Third Team, Phil Loadholt is a second-round prospect, but could be appealing to Philadelphia and Pittsburgh at the bottom of Round 1.
11/1/08: Phil Loadholt was beaten easily by Brian Orakpo a few weeks ago. Orakpo has abused everyone this year, but Loadholt’s lacking athleticism was glaring on that play. Still, he should make for an outstanding right tackle on the next level.
7/22/08: Phil Loadholt was arrested for suspicion of DUI in June.
5/24/08: A mammoth of an offensive tackle and a tremendous run-blocker. I have a feeling Phil Loadholt is going to be blocking for tons of 1,000-yard backs throughout his NFL career as a right tackle.
2007: I’m going out on a limb by saying this guy likes cheeseburgers.
Duke Robinson, G, Oklahoma
Height: 6-5. Weight: 329.
Projected 40 Time: 5.28.
Combine 40 Time: 5.27.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Benchx225: 20. Arm: 34 3/4.
Projected Round (2009): 1-2.
1/8/09: Easily an AP All-America first-teamer, Duke Robinson was a monstrous force on a line that was part of one of the greatest offenses in history.
11/2/08: Still the elite guard in this class by a wide distance. He could go in the top 15 if a team is desperate enough for a guard.
5/25/08: Duke Robinson has emerged as the consensus top 2009 guard. He nearly came out a year early, which is rare for a guard.
2007: Duke Robinson, who looks extremely fit for a 330-pound lineman, made a key block for Allen Patrick against Miami’s stout defensive front.
Brandon Walker, G, Oklahoma
Height: 6-3. Weight: 306.
Projected 40 Time: 5.22.
Combine 40 Time: 5.11.
Pro Day 40 Time: 5.15.
Benchx225: 27. Arm: 34 1/2.
Projected Round (2009): FA.
1/8/09: A Big XII honorable mention in 2008.
5/25/08: Brandon Walker could have a problem in pass protection at the next level, though he did qualify for the All-Big XII second team.
Auburn
Merrill Johnson, SS, Auburn
Height: 5-11. Weight: 206.
Projected 40 Time: 4.56.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.60.
Benchx225: 17. Vertical: 40.
Projected Round (2009): 7-FA.
3/10/09: A 40-inch vertical mau have put Merrill Johnson on some radars.
Brad Lester, RB, Auburn
Height: 5-11. Weight: 192.
Projected 40 Time: 4.47.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.48.
Benchx225: 18. Vertical: 38.5. Broad: 10-4.
Projected Round (2009): FA.
10/18/08: Sharing the workload with Ben Tate. Brad Lester’s carries have decreased every week until his four-rush output against Arkansas (he gained seven yards).
5/21/08: One of many small running backs in this class, Brad Lester missed the first five games of the 2007 season because he was suspended (academics). He rushed for 530 yards at a 4.2 clip the rest of the year.
Sen’Derrick Marks, DT, Auburn
Height: 6-2. Weight: 306.
Projected 40 Time: 4.89.
Combine 40 Time: 5.01.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Benchx225: 16. Vertical: .
Projected Round (2009): 2.
1/10/09: Sen’Derrick Marks declared a year early. Marks had 10 TFL and two sacks on the year.
11/23/08: Sen’Derrick Marks’ transition from end to tackle has been flawless; he’s a near first-round lock if he comes out early.
5/9/08: Sen’Derrick Marks played some defensive end and special teams last year. He even blocked two field goals. Marks had 43 tackles and two sacks.
2007: As a freshman, Sen’Derrick Marks had 38 tackles and 3.5 sacks. Was a member of the Sporting News Freshman All-America Third Team.
Jerraud Powers, CB, Auburn
Height: 5-9. Weight: 188.
Projected 40 Time: 4.46.
Combine 40 Time: 4.54.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.43.
Benchx225: . Vertical: 35.
Projected Round (2009): 5.
1/13/09: Jerraud Powers had 47 tackles, seven passes broken up and two picks in his junior year. He missed two games with a hamstring injury.
1/7/09: Unless he completely dazzles at the Combine, Jerraud Powers won’t get a whiff of Day 1. I have no idea why he declared early.
8/5/08: Jerraud Powers started every game as a sophomore. He managed 63 tackles and picked off four passes.
Arkansas
Andrew Davie, TE, Arkansas
Height: 6-5. Weight: 265.
Projected 40 Time: 4.84.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.80.
Benchx225: 20. Vertical: 32.
Projected Round (2009): FA.
1/2/09: Andrew Davie is 25, so I guess he decided that it’s “now or never” for him. Good luck.
Jose Valdez, OT, Arkansas
Height: 6-4. Weight: 315.
Projected 40 Time: 4.94.
Combine 40 Time: 5.19.
Pro Day 40 Time: 5.16.
Benchx225: 16. Arm: 34.
Projected Round (2009): FA.
Colorado State
Gartrell Johnson, RB, Colorado State
Height: 5-10. Weight: 219.
Projected 40 Time: 4.62.
Combine 40 Time: 4.77.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.67.
Benchx225: 20. Vertical: 34. Broad: 9-6.
Projected Round (2009): 6-7.
1/29/09: Gartrell Johnson’s 40 is going to hurt him, but hopefully some team will see past that. In 2008, Johnson recorded 1,476 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. He also helped out the passing game by catching 32 balls for 295 more yards.
Western Michigan
Londen Fryar, CB, Western Michigan
Height: 5-11. Weight: 192.
Projected 40 Time: 4.48.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.59.
Benchx225: 17. Vertical: 35.5.
Projected Round (2009): 7.
12/13/08: An All-MAC Second Team player, Londen Fryar recorded 40 tackles and five passes broken up as a senior.
5/17/08: Londen Fryar – sounds like something you can order in a fancy restaurant. A former receiver, Fryar has been an All-MAC selection the past two years.
2007: A member of the All-MAC First Team in 2006, Londen Fryar picked off five passes, ranked first in the conference.
Jamarko Simmons, WR, Western Michigan
Height: 6-2. Weight: 231.
Projected 40 Time: 4.60.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.50.
Vertical: 33. Broad: 9-11.
Projected Round (2009): 5-6.
1/4/09: Thanks to his monstrous frame, Jamarko Simmons was able to catch 98 balls, 1,184 yards and seven touchdowns as a senior.
10/19/08: Jamarko Simmons, currently on pace to eclipse the 1,000-yard barrier for the first time in his career, had 13 catches and 118 yards at Central Michigan on Oct. 18.
5/22/08: I find it odd that Jamarko Simmons had his best production against the likes of West Virginia (14 rec, 144 yds, 2 TDs) and Missouri (10 rec, 98 yds), and had his worst outings versus Central Connecticut State (3 rec, 33 yds) and Central Michigan (2 rec, 22 yards). In all, Simmons finished with 84 catches, 980 yards and six touchdowns.
McNeese State
Kyle Link, G, McNeese State
Height: 6-5. Weight: 305.
Projected 40 Time: 5.21.
Combine 40 Time: DNP.
Pro Day 40 Time: 5.50.
Benchx225: 20. Arm: 32.
Projected Round (2009): 7-FA.
