Oregon
Ra’Shon Harris, DT, Oregon
Height: 6-4. Weight: 298.
Projected 40 Time: 5.05.
Combine 40 Time: 4.99.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.88.
Benchx225: 28. Vertical: .
Projected Round (2009): 7.
1/10/09: Ra’Shon Harris improved his stock in his senior campaign, notching nine TFL and three sacks for the Ducks.
Jeremiah Johnson, RB, Oregon
Height: 5-9. Weight: 209.
Projected 40 Time: 4.52.
Combine 40 Time: 4.61.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.57.
Benchx225: 20. Vertical: . Broad: .
Projected Round (2009): 5-6.
1/3/09: Jeremiah Johnson rushed for 1,082 yards and 12 touchdowns – remarkable, as he was coming off a torn ACL. That injury is pretty much no longer an issue.
10/18/08: Coming off a torn ACL, Jeremiah Johnson played pretty well until running into USC. The Trojans contained him to just 45 yards on 13 carries. The following week, UCLA limited him to 30 yards on 11 rushes.
5/21/08: Jeremiah Johnson got off to a hot start in 2007, gaining 6.4 yards per carry alongside Jonathan Stewart. Unfortunately, he suffered a torn ACL in the middle of the year.
Nick Reed, ILB, Oregon
Height: 6-2. Weight: 245.
Projected 40 Time: 4.74.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.71.
Benchx225: 24. Vertical: 31.5.
Projected Round (2009): 7.
1/10/09: Played extremely well as a senior, earning himself a spot on the All-SEC Second Team. Dominic Douglas totaled 116 tackles and 5.5 TFL in 2008.
Fenuki Tupou, OT, Oregon
Height: 6-5. Weight: 314.
Projected 40 Time: 5.28.
Combine 40 Time: 5.41.
Pro Day 40 Time: 5.20.
Benchx225: 24. Arm: 34.
Projected Round (2009): 2-3.
1/6/09: Like Andre Smith, Fenuki Tupou had problems with having contact with an agent. Just another example of how out of control the NCAA is.
5/24/08: A monstrous right tackle who will also be able to play some guard at the next level. Fenuki Tupou started 12 games in 2007 after red-shirting the 2006 season.
Jaison Williams, WR, Oregon
Height: 6-4. Weight: 237.
Projected 40 Time: 4.53.
Combine 40 Time: 4.64.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.47.
Vertical: 36.5. Broad: 9-8.
Projected Round (2009): FA.
3/18/09: Jaison Williams ran a 4.47 and notched a 36.5-inch vertical at his Pro Day. This definitely puts him back on the radar.
1/4/09: Should have declared last year with Dennis Dixon. Jaison Williams was benched this season, finishing with just 33 receptions, 421 yards and three scores.
10/19/08: Jaison Williams’ production is down, but considering the dropoff at quarterback in the wake of Dennis Dixon’s departure, it’s not really a surprise.
5/22/08: A 4.6 isn’t good for a receiver, but if the guy’s 6-5, 240, who cares? Jaison Williams was a powerful weapon for Dennis Dixon; Williams notched 55 receptions, 844 yards and eight touchdowns. NFL GMs be warned – Williams is known for his butter fingers.
Boston College
Kevin Akins, SS, Boston College
Height: 6-2. Weight: 218.
Projected 40 Time: 4.54.
Combine 40 Time: 4.83.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.78.
Benchx225: . Vertical: .
Projected Round (2009): FA.
Robert Francois, OLB, Boston College
Height: 6-2. Weight: 244.
Projected 40 Time: 4.65.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.59.
Benchx225: 18. Vertical: 35.5.
Projected Round (2009): 6-7.
1/10/09: Robert Francois finished the year with 82 tackles, seven TFL and 1.5 sacks.
12/6/08: Robert Francois has 66 tackles and six TFL as a senior.
Ryan Purvis, TE, Boston College
Height: 6-4. Weight: 254.
Projected 40 Time: 4.79.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.95.
Benchx225: 19. Vertical: 29.
Projected Round: 7-FA.
3/18/09: A 4.95? Ouch.
1/5/09: Ryan Purvis isn’t a great blocker, so his decreased stats have worsened his draft stock. Purvis finished with 24 receptions and 176 yards.
10/26/08: You can’t really blame Ryan Purvis’ numbers (16 catches, 125 yards) for declining this season. Think not having Matt Ryan is making a huge difference?
2007: Ryan Purvis really came on at the end of the 2007 season, catching 10 balls for 102 yards and two touchdowns. He finished the year with 553 yards and four scores.
Brian Toal, OLB, Boston College
Height: 6-0. Weight: 228.
Projected 40 Time: 4.60.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.65.
Benchx225: 15. Vertical: 37.5.
Projected Round (2009): 7-FA.
1/10/09: Playing in only six games, the injury-prone Brian Toal had 42 tackles, four TFL and two sacks.
12/6/08: Brian Toal, coming off a shoulder injury, played in only six games this season because of a broken fibula. He’s just way too injury-prone to be drafted.
5/16/08: It should be interesting to see how Brian Toal plays coming off shoulder surgery.
2007: Had shoulder surgery this offseason, but hasn’t recovered. Decided to red shirt this year.
Nebraska
Joe Ganz, QB, Nebraska
Height: 6-1. Weight: 200.
Projected 40 Time: 4.65.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.94.
Projected Round (2009): FA.
12/20/08: Finished the year with 23 touchdowns and 10 picks. He had 3,329 yards, a completion percentage of 69.2 and an impressive YPA of 8.7.
3/26/08: Considering what he was able to accomplish at the end of the 2007 season, it’ll be exciting to watch Joe Ganz this year, especially now that Nebraska fans won’t have to worry about Bill Callahan screwing up any gameplans. In just three starts, Ganz threw for 1,399 yards, 15 touchdowns and seven picks. Nebraska scored 163 points in those three contests.
Cody Glenn, OLB, Nebraska
Height: 6-0. Weight: 235.
Projected 40 Time: 4.70.
Combine 40 Time: DNP.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.67.
Benchx225: 25. Vertical: 38.5. Broad: .
Projected Round (2009): FA.
Marlon Lucky, RB, Nebraska
Height: 5-11. Weight: 216.
Projected 40 Time: 4.52.
Combine 40 Time: 4.59.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.53.
Benchx225: 18. Vertical: . Broad: .
Projected Round (2009): 7.
1/3/09: Marlon Lucky finished the season with 517 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. On the bright side, he had 22 receptions and 275 receiving yards.
10/18/08: Nothing impressive here; Marlon Lucky has only one 100-yard rushing performance. He was held to 17 yards on eight carries against Virginia Tech.
5/21/08: Marlon Lucky ran well for classless moron coach Bill Callahan, compiling 1,019 yards and 12 touchdowns. But here’s the amazing stat – Lucky had 75 receptions and 705 receiving yards. This from a running back. Let’s just hope Lucky doesn’t score a zero on the Wonderlic as a possible result of unfortunately inheriting his former head coach’s idiocy.
Zach Potter, DE, Nebraska
Height: 6-7. Weight: 279.
Projected 40 Time: 4.93.
Combine 40 Time: 4.92.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.93.
Benchx225: 20. Vertical: .
Projected Round (2009): 7.
1/9/09: Zach Potter, an All-Big XII honorable mention, had 12 TFL, 5.5 sacks, seven passes broken up and two picks in 2008.
Matt Slauson, G, Nebraska
Height: 6-5. Weight: 316.
Projected 40 Time: 5.27.
Combine 40 Time: DNP.
Pro Day 40 Time: 5.26.
Benchx225: 23. Arm: 33 1/8.
Projected Round (2009): FA.
1/8/09: His character issues are a concern, but Matt Slauson qualified for the All-Big XII Second Team.
2007: Matt Slauson is definitely worth more than a fifth-rounder, but he was arrested for vandalism in January.
Northwestern
John Gill, DT, Northwestern
Height: 6-3. Weight: 302.
Projected 40 Time: 4.99.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.90.
Benchx225: 29. Vertical: 31.
Projected Round (2009): 7.
11/23/08: John Gill missed a game because of a suspension. In his 10 other contests, he has eight TFL and four sacks.
5/9/08: Managed 50 tackles and four sacks in 2007.
Tyrell Sutton, RB, Northwestern
Height: 5-8. Weight: 211.
Projected 40 Time: 4.45.
Combine 40 Time: 4.66.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.64.
Benchx225: 12. Vertical: 33. Broad: .
Projected Round (2009): 7-FA.
2/23/09: One of about a billion running backs who ran slow on Sunday, Tyrell Sutton recorded a 4.66 40.
2/21/09: A nice weight (211) for Tyrell Sutton. He was very close to 200 at Northwestern.
1/3/09: Playing in just eight games because of a broken wrist, Tyrell Sutton rushed for 776 yards in 2008. He also had 30 catches, 276 receiving yards and eight total touchdowns.
10/18/08: Tyrell Sutton is single-handedly carrying the 5-1 Northwestern Wildcats. Don’t blame him for the loss; he ran for 139 yards on 23 carries against Michigan State.
5/21/08: Tyrell Sutton missed a huge chunk of the 2007 season with an ankle injury. In five full games, he rushed for 522 yards and caught 30 passes.
Kansas State
Ian Campbell, Kansas State
Height: 6-4. Weight: 265.
Projected 40 Time: 4.83.
Combine 40 Time: DNP.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.99.
Benchx225: . Vertical: 21.
Projected Round (2009): 7-FA.
1/9/09: Another 4.5-sack campaign for Ian Campbell. Campbell also had eight TFL.
5/7/08: Ian Campbell failed to follow up on his incredible sophomore campaign; he managed 4.5 sacks, a drop from 11.5 in 2006.
Texas Tech
Darcel McBath, FS, Texas Tech
Height: 6-0. Weight: 198.
Projected 40 Time: 4.45.
Combine 40 Time: 4.57.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.53.
Benchx225: 17. Vertical: 38.
Projected Round (2009): 4-5.
12/14/08: Easily a member of the All-Big XII First Team, Darcel McBath recorded 70 tackles, seven passes broken up, six interceptions and a pick-six as a senior.
5/19/08: As a senior, Darcel McBath is entering his third season as a starter. He’s recorded 148 tackles, five picks and 11 pass break-ups in his sophomore and junior campaigns. An honorable mention on the All-Big XII team.
Louis Vasquez, G, Texas Tech
Height: 6-5. Weight: 333.
Projected 40 Time: 5.24.
Combine 40 Time: DNP.
Pro Day 40 Time: 5.16.
Benchx225: 39. Arm: 34 3/4.
Projected Round (2009): 4.
2/21/09: Louis Vasquez put up way more reps than any other offensive lineman at the 2009 NFL Combine (39).
1/8/09: Helping Texas Tech’s offense score billions of points, Louis Vasquez qualified for the All-Big XII Second Team and AP All-America Third Team.
11/2/08: Yet another guard who has suffered through injuries this season.
5/25/08: Despite playing in Texas Tech’s pass-happy offense, Louis Vasquez didn’t allow a single sack in 2007, earning himself a spot on the All-Big XII first team. Vasquez has started 22 consecutive games.
Brandon Williams, DE, Texas Tech
Height: 6-5. Weight: 252.
Projected 40 Time: 4.72.
Combine 40 Time: 4.90.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.78.
Benchx225: 18. Vertical: 33.5.
Projected Round (2009): 4-5.
1/14/09: Brandon Williams has chosen to declare for the 2009 NFL Draft a year early. I can’t say I agree with this. Unless he has an amazing combine, Williams has no shot to be a Day 1 pick. Williams recorded 15.5 TFL and 13 sacks as a junior.
7/30/08: In the same boat as a few other players at the bottom of this list. Brandon Williams needs a faster 40 to warrant draft consideration, despite the fact that he registered six sacks and qualified for the All-Big XII second team as a mere true sophomore.
Troy
Sherrod Martin, FS, Troy State
Height: 6-1. Weight: 198.
Projected 40 Time: 4.41.
Combine 40 Time: 4.52.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.46.
Benchx225: . Vertical: 36.5.
Projected Round (2009): 3-4.
12/14/08: An All-Sun Belt first-teamer Sherrod Martin impressed with 80 tackles, four picks and six passes broken up.
5/19/08: Despite missing a third of the season with shoulder injuries, Sherrod Martin recorded 52 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and three sacks.
Terence Moore, SS, Troy State
Height: 6-2. Weight: 216.
Projected 40 Time: 4.58.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.72.
Benchx225: 21. Vertical: 39.
Projected Round (2009): 7-FA.
12/14/08: An All-Sun Belt first-teamer, Terence Moore had 67 tackles, 5.5 TFL, six picks and three passes broken up. Unfortunately, he’s a tweener who doesn’t have great combine numbers.
5/19/08: A first-year starter in 2007, Terence Moore had 63 tackles and four pass break-ups.
Wyoming
Devin Moore, RB, Wyoming
Height: 5-9. Weight: 192.
Projected 40 Time: 4.32.
Combine 40 Time: 4.41.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.41.
Benchx225: 27. Vertical: 35. Broad Jump: 10-0.
Projected Round (2009): 6-7.
2/19/09: Devin Moore worked out in front of 14 teams prior to the NFL Scouting Combine, but disappointed. Projected as a low-4.3 runner, Moore recorded a 4.41. He’s now a late-round prospect.
1/3/09: If Devin Moore runs a low 4.3 as projected, teams will look at him as a Felix Jones-type back, making him a first-day possibility. Moore rushed for 1,303 yards and seven touchdowns. He also caught 14 passes.
10/18/08: Devin Moore has 688 rushing yards (5.2 YpC) and three touchdowns through seven games. He ran for 97 yards on just 14 carries (it was a blowout) against BYU, a team that was considered a national title contender before it was debacled by TCU.
5/21/08: The 2009 version of Chris Johnson. Think about it – Devin Moore is an undersized, non-BCS prospect with a blazing 40 and the ability to return kicks. You might as well pencil him into the Titans’ roster.
