Why Undrafted?: Antwan Goodley, WR, Baylor

Over the past few years, Baylor has featured one of the best and most prolific offenses in college football. The Bears’ point machine has been led by a variety of play-makers at the skill positions, and Goodley has been real contributor among them. Hee replaced Terrance Williams in the lineup for 2013 and had a breakout year with 71 receptions for 1,339 yards and 13 touchdowns. Goodley followed that up with 60 catches for 830 yards and six scores as a senior, but was slowed by quad injury for the first month of the season and didn’t register much production. With the big plays that Goodley provided for the Bears’ offense, many thought that he would be drafted on the third day of the 2015 NFL Draft. However, Goodley went undrafted.
Sources said that Goodley didn’t grade out as draftable. They felt that his skill set didn’t translate to the NFL. One source said, “I don’t like my wide receivers to be built like fullbacks.” That was an obvious exaggeration, but the 5-foot-10, 209-pound Goodley is much thicker than most NFL receivers while also being on the short side. Some teams felt that Goodley should move to running back in the NFL, and that could be a possibility depending on his new coaching staff.
After going undrafted, Goodley signed with the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys have their starting receivers set for the long term with young play-makers like Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams. Dallas doesn’t have a definite third receiver though, unless you count Cole Beasley. Goodley will be in a stiff competition for two or three roster spots with a group including Devin Street, Chris Boyd, Deontay Greenberry, George Farmer and a few others. With his versatility, Goodley could also be utilized in the Cowboys’ running back competition as a potential receiving back for third downs. Goodley could be a quality competitor for a roster spot in Dallas.
