USC has been named the best college in America for producing NFL talent, according to a new study examining nearly five decades of NFL Draft history.
Research by sports betting platform Lucky Rebel analysed 12,914 players selected in the NFL Draft between 1980 and 2026 to identify which colleges have the strongest track record of sending talent to the pros – and producing players who succeed once they get there.
USC finished first out of 76 qualifying colleges with an overall Talent Factory Score of 93.7 out of 100, narrowly beating Miami, Florida, which scored 92.4.
The ranking looked beyond the number of players each school has sent to the NFL, combining draft volume with measures of player quality and career reliability.
And while several programs have produced more total picks, USC’s combination of quantity and subsequent NFL success pushed the Trojans into first place.
Since 1980, 252 players have been drafted out of USC, including 56 first-round selections and 29 top-10 picks.
The latter is the highest total recorded by any college included in the study.
USC’s draft classes have also delivered at the professional level. Its picks have averaged 0.63 Pro Bowl selections per player, the second-highest rate among the 76 qualifying colleges, while 15.9% have gone on to make at least one Pro Bowl.
The Trojans also recorded the highest All-Pro rate of any qualifying college, at 0.21 selections per draft pick.
Seven of USC’s picks from the period have gone on to become Pro Football Hall of Famers, equivalent to 2.8 Hall of Famers for every 100 players drafted.
That balance gave USC a score of 97.3 for draft volume and 97.7 for player quality — the latter placing it among the very best programs in the country for what its players accomplish after leaving college.
Its record stretches across generations of USC football.
The Trojans produced 63 draft picks during the 1980s, followed by 52 in the 1990s and another 61 during the 2000s.
NFL production has slowed from those peaks, with 49 USC players drafted during the 2010s and 27 between 2020 and 2026, but the program’s long-term record was still enough to put it at the top of the overall ranking.
USC also has one of the most varied NFL pipelines in college football.
Of the 252 Trojans selected since 1980, 42 were offensive linemen, 42 defensive backs, 40 linebackers, 37 defensive linemen and 36 wide receivers.
Fifteen quarterbacks have also been drafted from USC over the period.
Ohio State actually leads the country for the sheer number of NFL Draft selections, producing 284 since 1980, while Miami has 265 and Alabama 263.
But the study found that producing the most draft picks does not necessarily mean producing the strongest NFL talent overall.
Ohio State ranks seventh in the combined ranking with a score of 81.3, despite leading all colleges in both total draft picks and first-round selections.
USC’s advantage comes from combining consistently high draft numbers with unusually strong professional outcomes.
The study measured colleges across three equally weighted areas: volume, based on total picks, first-rounders and top-10 selections; quality, based on Pro Bowls, All-Pros and Hall of Fame careers; and reliability, which considers how consistently drafted players establish careers in the league.
Only colleges with at least 50 draft picks since 1980 and enough completed NFL careers to assess long-term performance were included in the final ranking.
Across all three categories, no program performed better overall than USC.
