Prospect Summary:
Over recent years, under head coach Kirby Smart, Georgia has had some excellent defensive line prospects, including top-20 talents like Travon Walker, Jordan Davis, and Jalen Carter. Those players did not have prolific stat lines in college, but showed special skill sets for the NFL. Williams will keep that tradition alive as he did not have a massive season of production in college but he showed a pro starter skill set. While playing behind some veterans, Williams flashed big-time ability as a freshman for Georgia, recording 4.5 sacks, 6.5 tackles for a loss, and 28 tackles. He had 16 tackles with 4.5 sacks and two passes batted as a sophomore while playing in a rotation. Williams had two tackles and was active against Clemson in the season opener, but he suffered a sprained ankle in the second half and missed the month of September. Williams came back in early October and has played well. In 2024, Williams had 21 tackles, five sacks, and two forced fumbles. For the NFL, Williams is a well-rounded defender who is effective in both phases.
In the pass rush, Williams has quickness off the ball and enough speed to turn the corner. He is an impressive power rusher who uses his length and strength to bullrush blockers backward into the pocket. At tackle or end, Williams can get into the chest of blockers and get them rolling in the wrong direction. Williams uses his length and strength to shed blocks and push defenders away. Williams also has quality vision, recognition, and ability to adjust to quarterbacks as they scramble in the pocket. Williams uses his hands and feet at the same time to battle blockers. While Williams did not have big sack totals in college, he has the ability to be more productive in the NFL.
As a run defender, Williams is strong at the point of attack with physicality and impressive instincts. He is strong to hold his ground against downhill runs coming straight at him. He can stuff running lanes and shed his block to pursue outside his gap. For the NFL, Williams is a quality run defender who should be an asset to his pro defense.
Williams looks like a base end who can be a three-down starter with above-average run defense, along with being a quality pass rusher. Williams is a safe bet to be a quality starter and is a first-round prospect for the 2025 NFL Draft.
Prospect Comparison:
Travon Walker. Some team sources have said that Williams reminds them of Walker. In his second and third seasons, Walker has emerged as a tough defensive lineman and well-rounded player for Jacksonville. Williams could be a similar caliber defender in the NFL.
