Alabama
Terrence Cody, NT, Alabama – Scouting Report
Height: 6-4. Weight: 349.
Projected 40 Time: 5.50.
Combine 40 Time: 5.64.
Pro Day 40 Time: 5.62.
Benchx225: 22. Vertical: .
Projected Round (2010): 1-2.
3/10/10: Terrence Cody trimmed yet another five pounds off his massive figure, weighing in at 349 pounds at his Pro Day. So much for not being able to control his weight.
2/28/10: After showing up to the Senior Bowl in the 370s, Terrence Cody slimmed down and weighed in at 354 at the Combine. It might be easy for someone as large as Cody to drop a few pounds, but the fact remains that he did what he was supposed to do, while others like Greg Hardy and Andre Smith (a year ago) didn’t put any effort into being in shape for this job interview.
1/26/10: Terrence Cody weighed in at 370 at the Senior Bowl. This is a concern, but with quality nose tackles being so rare, Cody still has a shot at the first round.
11/20/09: Did a great job losing some weight this year and has shown more effort on the field. He’s likely the only stud nose tackle who will be available this offseason, so even though he’s only a two-down player, he’ll be a hot commodity.
11/23/08: Terrence Cody said he’s not declaring early, but once he discovers that he has a great shot at being drafted in the top 15, he could reconsider. Cody is a monstrous run-stuffer and should be a Kris Jenkins-like difference-maker at the next level.
Mike Johnson, G, Alabama
Height: 6-6. Weight: 312.
Projected 40 Time: 5.20.
Combine 40 Time: 5.37.
Pro Day 40 Time: 5.31.
Benchx225: . Arm: 32 1/2.
Projected Round (2010): 4-5.
1/17/10: An AP First-Team All-American, Mike Johnson is my No. 1 guard for zone-blocking teams.
2/10/09: A major reason for Alabama’s return to glory. Mike Johnson was voted to the All-SEC Second Team. He started every game, 12 at guard and one at left tackle.
7/28/08: The bookend tackle across from Andre Smith, Mike Johnson started every game as a sophomore. Johnson seems like he would be a better fit as a guard at the next level.
Rolando McClain, ILB, Alabama – Scouting Report
Height: 6-3. Weight: 249.
Projected 40 Time: 4.65.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.69.
Benchx225: 24. Vertical: 35.
Projected Round (2010): Top 18 Pick.
3/10/10: Rolando McClain ran a 4.69 40 and leaped a 35-inch vertical at his Pro Day. However, the big news is that McClain was diagnosed with Chrohn’s disease, which sounds a lot worse than it is. Chrohn’s will not affect McClain’s play on the field. Lots of people, including David Garrard, have Chrohn’s and it really doesn’t impact their lives all that much as long as it’s monitored. McClain is still a top-18 pick.
1/12/10: Rolando McClain has declared for the 2010 NFL Draft. Inside linebackers tend to fall on Draft Day, but McClain is so talented that he could be an exception.
1/8/10: Inside linebackers seldom are drafted in the top 10, but Rolando McClain could buck that trend. McClain had 100 tackles, 12 TFL and four sacks as a junior. His experience in the 3-4 will make his transition to the NFL very smooth.
2/19/09: An AP All-America third-teamer, Rolando McClain had 95 tackles, 12 TFL, three sacks and six passes broken up for one of the top defenses in the nation.
8/3/08: Despite being a mere true freshman, Rolando McClain started eight games, and recorded 75 tackles (five for loss), four pass break-ups and two interceptions. GMs will love the 4.6 at 255 pounds.
Colin Peek, TE, Alabama
Height: 6-5. Weight: 252.
Projected 40 Time: 4.79.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.93.
Benchx225: 19. Vertical: 34.5. Arm: 34.
Projected Round (2010): 6-7.
3/10/10: Ran a 4.93 at his Pro Day. Not good.
1/21/10: Colin Peek had 26 catches for 313 yards and three touchdowns as a senior.
10/10/09: Through five games, Colin Peek has 14 receptions for 160 yards.
5/14/09: A transfer from Georgia Tech, Colin Peek caught 25 passes for 248 yards and a score in 2007. The tenacious blocker sat out the 2008 campaign.
Kansas
Dezmon Briscoe, WR, Kansas
Height: 6-2. Weight: 208.
Projected 40 Time: 4.56.
Combine 40 Time: 4.61.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.51.
Vertical: 34. Broad: 10-0.
Projected Round (2010): 5-6.
3/10/10: Dezmon Briscoe helped himself at his Pro Day with a 4.51 40, though Pro Day 40s have been known to be a bit shady.
3/1/10: Dezmon Briscoe ran really poorly on Sunday, notching a 4.61 40.
1/3/10: Dezmon Briscoe has declared for the 2010 NFL Draft. At just 20 years old, Briscoe would have been better off staying in school to avoid a very top-heavy receiver class.
11/7/09: Don’t be fooled by Dezmon Briscoe’s numbers – 54 catches, 841 yards, 5 TDs – he plays in a goofy offense that inflates statistics.
5/13/09: Just look at the numbers: 92 catches, 1,402 yards and 15 touchdowns. Unfortunately, Dezmon Briscoe doesn’t play in a pro-style offense and runs a slow 40, both of which will cost him on Draft Day.
Kerry Meier, WR, Kansas
Height: 6-2. Weight: 215.
Projected 40 Time: 4.61.
Combine 40 Time: 4.62.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.51.
Vertical: . Broad: .
Projected Round (2010): 7-FA.
3/10/10: See what I mean about Pro Day times being shady? Seems like the Kansas players ran a 39-yard dash.
1/19/10: Kerry Meier, or as Corrine Brown would call him, “Kerry Mayas,” caught 102 passes for 985 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior.
2/7/09: Kerry Meier, a former quarterback for Kansas, effectively made the transition to receiver, finishing his junior campaign with 97 receptions, 1,045 yards and eight touchdowns. His 40, however, will cost him on Draft Day.
Jake Sharp, RB, Kansas
Height: 5-9. Weight: 194.
Projected 40 Time: 4.45.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.43.
Benchx225: 19. Vertical: 25. Broad: 10-4.
Projected Round (2010): 7-FA.
Washington
Donald Butler, ILB, Washington
Height: 6-1. Weight: 235.
Projected 40 Time: 4.84.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.61.
Benchx225: 35. Vertical: 35.5.
Projected Round (2010): 5-6.
3/10/10: Donald Butler lost about 10 pounds, but managed to run the 40 in 4.61 seconds.
1/8/10: Qualifying as part of the All-Pac 10 Second Team, Donald Butler managed 94 tackles and 15.5 TFL.
Daniel Te’o-Nesheim, DE, Washington
Height: 6-4. Weight: 267.
Projected 40 Time: 4.77.
Combine 40 Time: 4.72.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.72.
Benchx225: 29. Vertical: 37.
Projected Round (2010): 4-5.
3/2/10: Daniel Te’o-Nesheim put on a good performance at the Combine. Despite bulking about from 250 to 263, Te’o-Nesheim ran a 4.72, benched 29 reps and had a vertical of 37 inches. And he’s not some workout warrior; Te’o-Nesheim had 9.5 sacks in 2009, eight sacks in 2008 and 8.5 sacks in 2007.
1/22/10: Was impressive as a junior, and only improved himself in his senior year. Recorded 12.5 TFL and 9.5 sacks. A smart and crafty end who knows how to get to the quarterback.
2/12/09: Sure, no one can pronounce his name, but Daniel Te’o-Nesheim made his opponents pay with 11.5 TFL and eight sacks in 2008. He was an All-Pac 10 second-teamer.
7/30/08: Daniel Te’o-Nesheim (bet his school teachers had fun with that one) recorded 15 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks as a sophomore. He was voted as Washington’s defensive MVP.
Colorado
Ben Burney, CB, Colorado
Height: 5-11. Weight: 202.
Projected 40 Time: 4.51.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.38.
Benchx225: 16. Vertical: 39.
Projected Round (2010): 6-7.
3/10/10: Ben Burney put himself on the map with a 4.38 40 and a 39-inch vertical at Colorado’s Pro Day. He now has a chance to be drafted late.
Riar Geer, TE, Colorado
Height: 6-3. Weight: 259.
Projected 40 Time: 4.80.
Combine 40 Time: 4.98.
Benchx225: 13. Vertical: . Arm: 33.
Projected Round (2010): FA.
