The Week 1 of the 2024 college football season featured one of the most prolific single-game performances from a wide receiver in college football history. Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan set the program’s record with 304 yards through the air on ten catches and tied the record with four receiving touchdowns taking on New Mexico. There already was buzz about McMillan in the scouring community, but the opener was a statement game for McMillan. In speaking to team sources this week, some say they love McMillan’s skill set and have one question about him for translating to the NFL.
“He’s really impressive,” said an AFC director of player personnel. “Big, catches everything, outstanding body control, and really good after the catch. I just wonder how fast he is.”
Arizona had an impressive 2023 season while featuring a dangerous passing attack. Wide receiver Jacob Cowing was a known factor for 2023, but McMillan emerged as a playmaker that season. The sophomore caught 90 passes on the year for 1,402 yards and 10 touchdowns. McMillan notched 39 catches for 702 yards and eight scores as a freshman. The 6-foot-5, 210-pounder McMillan has mismatch size for the NFL, so the question with big receivers is usually how fast they are. In speaking with a national scout who has been to Arizona during training camp, he believes McMillan can run.
“He’s not a burner but plenty fast enough, especially given his size,” texed the National Scout. I followed up and asked if McMillan runs as well as Tampa Bay Buccaneers star wide out Mike Evans, and here was the response, “Probably not quite that fast, but that’s a good comp. Actually he reminded me more of Drake Lond.”
In my latest 2025 NFL Mock Draft, I have McMillan going high in the first round. If he stays healthy, it is a near certainty that McMillan will be a consensus first-round pick by the end of the season when scouts submit their grades.
