2019 NCAA Tournament Picks – West Bracket
By Walter Cherepinsky – @walterfootball
Rather than go through, game by game, I’m going to show you my selections on the brackets and post notes on some of the interesting contests:
Gonzaga should skate to the Sweet 16. I don’t think either Syracuse or Baylor belongs in the tournament. I think you could at least make a case for the Orange Men, but not the Bears.
Murray State over Marquette sounds like a 12-5 upset to me. Marquette is a team that has lost five of six to close out the year and probably should’ve been made a No. 7 seed.
I’m actually going to pick Florida State to come out of this region. Most will have Gonzaga, but the ‘Zags typically fall in the Sweet 16, and the Seminoles have the better defense.
In the bottom half of the bracket, Buffalo should advance past the stupid play-in game winner to battle Texas Tech. The Red Raiders are seeded appropriately, but I hate the fact that they lost their opening-round conference tournament game. Teams that do that have a dubious track record in the real tournament.
Nevada and Florida are three spots apart in the KenPom Rankings, so I’m going to take the lower seed from the better conference. This all doesn’t matter, as Michigan figures to win the bottom of the region quite easily.
While Gonzaga has a poor history in the NCAA Tournament, Michigan has been stellar under John Beilein. I think the Wolverines will win the West Region.
