2013 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Isaiah Austin
Position: Power Forward
Size: 7-1, 220
School: Baylor, Freshman
Strengths:
Weaknesses:
Summary: Austin has a terrific skill set for a young seven-footer, but his lack of strength is a major concern in his transition to the NBA. Austin won’t be an immediate contributor at the next level as he will need to add muscle. Regardless, his unique offensive versatility will attract several NBA teams and he should be a late lottery/mid first round pick.
Player Comparison: Channing Frye. Austin doesn’t possess the physicality of Frye, but each player’s ability to stretch defenses with their jump-shooting abilities and length inside is where the similarities come into play. Both guys are more comfortable playing on the perimeter than mixing it up down low, but how quickly Austin can gain weight will be the deciding factor if he can develop into a solid contibutor like Frye.
