2011 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Marshon Brooks

Position: Shooting Guard

Size: 6-5, 194

School: Providence, Senior

Strengths:
  • Crafty scorer
  • Slasher
  • Body control when attacking the basket
  • Finishing at the rim
  • Ball-handling
  • Creating his own shot
  • Able to back down smaller defenders
  • Mid-range game
  • Explosive in the open floor
  • Athleticism
  • Rebounds well for his position
  • Length (7-1 wingspan)

    Weaknesses:
  • Strength
  • Inconsistent three-point shooter
  • Shot selection
  • Creating for his teammates
  • Not a proven winner

Summary: Marshon Brooks came out of nowhere during his senior season to be the second leading scorer in the country. He benefits from the 2011 NBA Draft having a weak crop of shooting guards and should be a mid-late first-round pick.

Player Comparison: Nick Young. Nick Young knows how to score the basketball using various methods, but does not really impact the game in any other ways. Brooks was an elite scorer at the college level and will be drafted because of his offense. If Brooks can grow in other areas of the game, it will make him a more well-rounded player than Young.
