2024 NBA Offseason: Brooklyn Nets

Updated: 5/28/2024

Free Agents:

Nic Claxton, UFA

Lonnie Walker, UFA

Dennis Smith Jr., UFA

Harry Giles, UFA

2023-24 Season Overview:

The Nets had a poor 2023 season. They have Nic Claxton, Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson and Cam Thomas as a foundation, but they dealt with numerous injuries, Ben Simmons, and another coach after Jacque Vaughn was fired. There were some plusses, like Thomas becoming a consistently excellent scorer and getting Dennis Schroder, who fits perfectly, but the Nets shouldn’t have been the No. 11 team in the East, they were too talented.

Holes:

Star talent

Depth at Center

Offseason Goals

The Nets need to re-sign Claxton as soon as possible because he’s a double-double machine and an excellent rim protector. He’s not a max player, but he’s an important part of the team. Rumor has it though that he may not be with Brooklyn next season. If the Nets can keep Walker and Smith on team-friendly deals, they should, but they need to be focusing on their foundation guys and getting another star to go with Bridges. Maybe they could swing Lauri Markkanen for three first-round picks and Cameron Johnson?. Brooklyn has the pieces to make a very big trade, and Markkanen fits their age range, is on an excellent deal and could give the team a reliable No. 1 scorer. The Nets should also look to trade Dorian Finney-Smith, who will net them serious assets and should be on a contender.

Theoretical 2024-25 Roster

PG: Dennis Schroder, Ben Simmons, Dennis Smith

SG: Cam Thomas, Lonnie Walker

SF: Mikal Bridges, Dariq White

PF: Lauri Markkanen, Trendon Watford, Day’Ron Sharpe, Noah Clowney, Jalen Wilson

C: Nic Claxton
