2010 NBA Free Agency Signings Analysis – July 16

Houston Rockets re-sign PF Luis Scola to 5-year, $47 million deal
These two just seem like the perfect match. Scola fits the Rockets style of hard-nosed play with his unselfishness and ability to mix it up down low. The Argentinean spent a good chunk of last season playing out of position at center since Yao was sidelined. With Yao back, Scola will switch back to the power forward position and should build off a career year. The $47 million might be a bit steep, but Daryl Morey has a plan and unlike what David Kahn is doing in Minnesota, I trust Morey.

New Orleans Hornets re-sign C Aaron Gray to 2-year deal
Terms of this signing have not been released yet, but I would assume it is for slightly more than the league minimum… at least I would hope. New Orleans is in need of some depth inside and Gray is a big body who can give Emeka Okafor a couple blows per night but won’t do much more.

Washington Wizards sign C Hilton Armstrong to 1-year deal worth league minimum
Armstrong is nothing more than a defensive-minded reserve center who can occasionally provide a boost of energy off the bench. He is not very physical or much of a scorer but for the league minimum, Armstrong is not a terrible backup.
