North Carolina (1-0) at Rutgers (0-1)
Line: Rutgers by 5.5.
Thursday, 7:45 ET
An underrated Tar Heel squad led by their talented defensive line with future stars E.J. Wilson and Marvin Austin is a team on the rise under Butch Davis. Rutgers’ talent is being based on last season. Mike teel has shown nothing at the quarterback position, and their defense wasn’t impressive against Fresno St.
NOTE: The rest of Matt’s Week 3 College Picks will be posted by Friday morning.
Prediction: North Carolina 24, Rugers 20
North Carolina +5.5 (2 Units) — Correct; +$200
North Carolina 44, Rutgers 12
Kansas (2-0) at South Florida (2-0)
Line: South Florida by 3.5.
Friday, 8:00 ET
South Florida was not impressive on the road last week against UCF offensively. Matt Grothe really struggled and the running game was non-existent. I think we are going to see a similar thing this week against Kansas. They have a quarterback who takes care of the football in Todd Reesing, and a defense that is underrated up to this point in the season. I like them to keep it close on the road, and dont hesitate to bet the moneyline if you like Kansas.
Prediction: South Florida 23, Kansas 20
Kansas +3.5 (1 Unit) — Correct; +$100
South Florida 37, Kansas 34
NC State (1-0) at Clemson (1-1)
Line: Clemson by 19.
Saturday, 12:30 ET
Clemsons offense is ready to explode, and thats what exactly will happen in Death Valley against a pathetic Wolfpack defense. State looked absolutely terrible against South Carolina, who just did whatever they wanted to rushing the football.
Prediction: Clemson 45, N.C. State 9
Clemson -19 (2 Units) — Incorrect; -$220
Clemson 27, N.C. State 9
Nevada (1-1) at Missouri (2-0)
Line: Missouri by 26.5.
Saturday, 12:30 ET
Missouris defense is among the most overrated in the country right now. They gave up 42 points against Illinois, and simply have a lot of weak links among their defensive front and at linebacker. Nevadas pistol package will confuse Missouri, and I think this is a definite cover. Nevada is a competitive squad, and I like them with their backs against the wall on the road here.
Prediction: Missouri 37, Nevada 24
Nevada +26.5 (1 Unit) — Incorrect; -$110
Missouri 69, Nevada 17
Georgia (2-0) at South Carolina (1-1)
Line: Georgia by 7.
Saturday, 3:30 ET
South Carolina has a really solid pass defense that worries me against Matt Stafford, but I love Knowshon Moreno to have a huge game. I also like Steve Spurriers unit to be ineffective because Georgia is going to stack the box and disrespect the vertical pass. I think Stafford will put together a few big plays in Columbia, and Georgias offensive line will dominate this contest.
Prediction: Georgia 24, South Carolina 13
Georgia -7 (1 Unit) — Push; -$10
Georgia 14, South Carolina 7
Michigan (1-1) at Notre Dame (1-0)
Line: Michigan by 2.
Saturday, 3:30 ET
Notre Dame? Seriously? I cant believe Vegas is giving the Getting-their-a**-kicked (no longer fighting) Irish this much respect. This team is in the dumps. I like Tim Jamison and Terrance Taylor to dominate this joke of an offensive line. If Michigan can get anything going together offensively in the first quarter, this game is over.
Prediction: Michigan 20, Notre Dame 6
Michigan -2 (1 Unit) — Incorrect; -$110
Notre Dame 35, Michigan 17
Washington State (2-0) at Baylor (1-1)
Line: Baylor by 2.5.
Saturday, 4:00 ET
Washington State has gotten blown out by Oklahoma State and Cal at home. Whats going to happen when they have to make a long flight and play on the road? Baylor isnt a good team, but neither is Washington State. I like for Baylor’s defense to step up a bit playing at home. Lets take home field advantage and 2.5 points.
Prediction: Baylor 27, Washington State 20
Baylor -2.5 (1 Unit) — Correct; +$100
Baylor 45, Washington State 17
SMU (1-1) at Texas Tech (2-0)
Line: Texas Tech by 36.
Saturday, 7:00 ET
Texas Tech doesnt have a defense. SMU should have a better understanding of June Jones offense now with two games under their belts. Quarterback Bo Mitchell for SMU was solid against Texas State, throwing 24/37, 370 yards, 5 TDs, and no INTs. Those are very solid stats, and I like the team’s momentum. This should be a definite cover, and I dont care how good Techs offense is.
Prediction: Texas Tech 52, SMU 24
SMU +36 (2 Units) — Push; -$20
Texas Tech 43, SMU 7
Ohio State (2-0) at USC (1-0)
Line: USC by 11.
Saturday, 8:00 ET
Can you believe Beanie Wells is only worth a half a point? Thats how much the spread was raised since his status became doubtful. I dont care if he does play, he probably wont be very effective. I dont see how anyone can take Todd Boeckman in this matchup against the best defense in the country. Mark Sanchez looked great against Virginia, and this offense is clicking on all cylinders. Dont forget we are taking the home squad, and going against the team that should have been beaten last week against the OHIO BOBCATS! I dont think Wells is healthy, and I dont think he will be very effective.
Prediction: USC 40, Ohio State 17
USC -11 (4 Units – September Pick of the Month) — Correct; +$400
USC 35, Ohio State 3
Wisconsin (2-0) at Fresno State (2-0)
Line: Wisconsin by 2.
Saturday, 10:30 ET
I think this is Pat Hills year to make some noise… Im talking about a BCS berth; I just see some big wins on the horizon for the Bulldogs. Wisconsin struggled early against Marshall, but Fresno State wouldnt let them off the hook. I like for Tom Brandstater to be an efficient passer in this game in front of his home crowd, and Fresno is going to shut down P.J. Hill for the most part. Wisconsin has no quarterback to make plays in the passing game and bail them out and switch up field position.
Prediction: Fresno State 27, Wisconsin 24
Fresno State +2 (1 Unit) — Incorrect; -$110
Wisconsin 13, Fresno State 10
