2022 NFL Draft Rumor Results

I post lots of things in the NFL Draft Rumors section from various reporters on the Internet and in print media. I’ve been rating how these reporters perform each year because it’s important to differentiate between those who actually have sources, and those who nonsensically post on Twitter, pretending to know people in NFL organizations.

I took a glance back and counted how many “wins” and “losses” each reporter had. I didn’t look at whom they slotted in their mock drafts – we did that in our 2022 NFL Mock Draft Results page – but rather, my task was delving into reports that said “Team X really likes Player A,” or “Team Y plans to trade up.”

I’ve also included the best reports and worst reports for 2022, so check those out below the following wins and losses (Note that these aren’t exactly ordered by percentage; getting a report right is difficult, so I wanted to award those who had more correct. As a result, it’s sort of a mixture.) Follow @walterfootball for updates.

Best 2022 NFL Draft Reports

5. This entire section belongs to Charlie because he nailed the 2022 NFL Draft. He nailed every pick before everything went crazy with the trades. He was the first to report this:

3/23: The Jaguars are conducting private workouts with Travon Walker and are considering him at No. 1 overall. – Charlie Campbell, WalterFootball.com

4. Reports of the Jets liking Jermaine Johnson and Ickey Ekwonu let some mock drafters astray, but they should’ve listed to Charlie:

4/28: The Jets are high on Ahmad Gardner, and he’s the favorite to be their pick at No. 4. – Charlie Campbell, WalterFootball.com

3. Speaking of the Jets…

4/28: It sounds like Garrett Wilson is the favorite of the Jets’ receiving options at No. 10. – Charlie Campbell, WalterFootball.com

2. And also the other team in New York…

4/28: Updating a previous item, if Derek Stingley and Ahmad Gardner are off the board, the Giants would use one of their picks on Kayvon Thibodeaux. – Charlie Campbell, WalterFootball.com

1. And also another city with “New” in its name…

4/28: Some of the players the Saints are interested in are the two Ohio State receivers, Trevor Penning and Tyler Smith. Defensively, Kyle Hamilton, Quay Walker and Devin Lloyd. – Charlie Campbell, WalterFootball.com

It’s insane how great Charlie’s reporting is. I hope all of you were able to take advantage of this by either scoring highly in your mock draft contests or making money via draft betting props.

Worst 2022 NFL Draft Reports

5. I mentioned how other reporters led mock drafts astray with the Jets:

4/26: Joe Douglas will not pass on Ikem Ekwonu if he’s available at No. 4. – D.J. Bien-Aime, New York Daily News

This will be the last time the French report about the NFL Draft for a long time.

4. Speaking of leading mock drafters astray…

4/24: There’s some “buzz” about the Lions being smitten with Kayvon Thibodeaux. – Peter King, NBC

Some mock drafters slotted Thibodeaux to the Lions at No. 2 because of King’s report, allowing us to collect money on easy Thibodaux over 4.5 bets. Thanks, Chief!

3. This was not correct:

4/29: The Seahawks really like Malik Willis. – Ian Rapoport, NFL Network

Did Rapoport mean that the Seahawks really like to pass on Malik Willis many times?

2. For once, Matt Miller doesn’t have the “top” spot here:

4/5: “Based on what I’m hearing-I would not be surprised if Desmond Ridder is a top 20 pick.” – Matt Miller, ESPN

Miller will fit right in at ESPN.

1. Speaking of ESPN, this was atrocious:

4/17: Malik Willis is not off the table at No. 2. – Jeremy Fowler, ESPN

Willis was never in discussion for the Lions at No. 32; let alone No. 2!
