2008 NFL Draft Scouting Combine Prospects:
QB | RB | WR | TE | OT | G | C | DE | DT | OLB | ILB | CB | S

Kentwan Balmer, North Carolina
Height: 6-4. Weight: 308.
Projected 40 Time: 4.96.
Combine 40 Time: 5.28.
Benchx225: 33. Vertical 29.
Projected Round: Top 25 Pick.

No one expected Kentwan Balmer to run a 4.7 or anything, but he should have done better than a 5.28. Still, his bench numbers showed what he’s best at – mauling opposing offensive linemen.

Barry Booker, Virginia Tech
Height: 6-3. Weight: 285.
Projected 40 Time: 4.89.
Combine 40 Time: Did not run.
Benchx225: 24. Vertical .
Projected Round: 5.

Red Bryant, Texas A&M
Height: 6-4. Weight: 318.
Projected 40 Time: 5.08.
Combine 40 Time: 4.98.
Benchx225: 20. Vertical .
Projected Round: 2.

Red Bryant’s 40 was solid, but benching 225 pounds just 20 times didn’t really help him.

Glenn Dorsey, LSU
Height: 6-1. Weight: 297.
Projected 40 Time: 5.12.
Combine 40 Time: Did not run.
Benchx225: . Vertical .
Projected Round: Top 10 Pick.

Glenn Dorsey did not work out. In fact, he was rushed to the hospital so doctors could perform tests on his knees. This isn’t anything new. This didn’t just happen. Dorsey has had knee problems the past two years. I know he managed to play through the pain, but who’s to say his knees won’t get any worse? If you’re a team in the top five, and you’re thinking about taking Dorsey, and two or three other prospects, the former’s knees will probably be the tie-breaker. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Dorsey dropped all the way down to No. 9.

Lionel Dotson, Arizona
Height: 6-3. Weight: 296.
Projected 40 Time: 4.97.
Combine 40 Time: 5.36.
Benchx225: . Vertical .
Projected Round: 5.

Sedrick Ellis, USC
Height: 6-0. Weight: 309.
Projected 40 Time: 4.83.
Combine 40 Time: 5.24.
Benchx225: 34. Vertical 26.5.
Projected Round: Top 5 Pick.

I was shocked that Sedrick Ellis didn’t follow up his incredible Senior Bowl with a stellar combine. A 5.24 in the 40? What’s that about? At least he didn’t fall too far behind Glenn Dorsey, whose knees are probably going to shatter any day now.

Andre Fluellen, Florida State
Height: 6-2. Weight: 296.
Projected 40 Time: 4.90.
Combine 40 Time: Did not run.
Benchx225: 28. Vertical .
Projected Round: 5.

Andre Fluellen didn’t work out at the combine.

Letroy Guion, Florida State
Height: 6-3. Weight: 303.
Projected 40 Time: 5.11.
Combine 40 Time: 5.30.
Benchx225: 26. Vertical .
Projected Round: 3.

Another defensive tackle who ran a disappointing 40 time at in Indianapolis.

Marcus Harrison, Arkansas
Height: 6-2. Weight: 317.
Projected 40 Time: 4.98.
Combine 40 Time: 5.02.
Benchx225: 26. Vertical .
Projected Round: 2-3.

Marcus Harrison put on about 10 pounds and still ran a decent 40 at his size. He’s definitely in the second- or third-round range.

Nick Hayden, Wisconsin
Height: 6-4. Weight: 291.
Projected 40 Time: 5.06.
Combine 40 Time: 5.10.
Benchx225: 34. Vertical 27.
Projected Round: 4.

Nick Hayden’s 34 reps of 225 pounds could provoke a team to draft him late in the third round.

Kendall Langford, Hampton
Height: 6-5. Weight: 287.
Projected 40 Time: 4.92.
Combine 40 Time: 4.97.
Benchx225: 24. Vertical .
Projected Round: 4.

Trevor Laws, Notre Dame
Height: 6-0. Weight: 304.
Projected 40 Time: 4.98.
Combine 40 Time: 5.08.
Benchx225: 35. Vertical 30.5.
Projected Round: 2.

I thought Trevor Laws had a decent combine, cementing his status as a second-round prospect.

James McClinton, Kansas
Height: 6-0. Weight: 293.
Projected 40 Time: 4.85.
Combine 40 Time: 5.49.
Benchx225: 23. Vertical .
Projected Round: 6.

Dre Moore, Maryland
Height: 6-4. Weight: 305.
Projected 40 Time: 4.82.
Combine 40 Time: 4.88.
Benchx225: 31. Vertical .
Projected Round: 2.

Dre Moore was the talk of the combine at defensive tackle, as his blazing 40 (4.88) was very impressive, considering his 305-pound frame. Thirty-one reps of 225 pounds wasn’t too shabby either.

Frank Okam, Texas
Height: 6-4. Weight: 347.
Projected 40 Time: 5.00.
Combine 40 Time: 5.32.
Benchx225: 32. Vertical 23.
Projected Round: 3-4.

Forget bulldozers; they should just have Frank Okam run a couple of 40s when they want to knock down the RCA Dome. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that Okam ate a cheeseburger or two after the end of the regular season.

Carlton Powell, Virginia Tech
Height: 6-2. Weight: 292.
Projected 40 Time: 4.93.
Combine 40 Time: 5.04.
Benchx225: 23. Vertical 22.5.
Projected Round: 5.

Had a broad jump of 8’11”, which is pretty decent for a defensive tackle.

DeMario Pressley, N.C. State
Height: 6-3. Weight: 300.
Projected 40 Time: 4.99.
Combine 40 Time: 5.11.
Benchx225: 28. Vertical 25.5.
Projected Round: 2-3.

Ahtyba Rubin, Iowa State
Height: 6-2. Weight: 315.
Projected 40 Time: 5.18.
Combine 40 Time: 5.17.
Benchx225: 35. Vertical 28.
Projected Round: 3.

Ahtyba Rubin should keep moving up draft boards and could eventually sneak into the bottom half of the second round. Solid combine.

Pat Sims, Auburn
Height: 6-2. Weight: 310.
Projected 40 Time: 4.92.
Combine 40 Time: 5.06.
Benchx225: 20. Vertical 27.
Projected Round: Top 25 Pick.

I don’t get how Pat Sims benched 225 pounds only 20 times. I know that doesn’t mean everything, especially with his quick 40 time, but it could hinder his shot at going in the first round.
