Standouts from Week 1

Week 1 of college football showcased a lot of talented players who will be playing in the NFL next year and the year after. NFL scouts and executives were traveling during August, watching training camp practices and starting their digging on the 2020 NFL Draft class. Many scouts attended college football games during the first week, so WalterFootball.com reached out to team sources to find out who impressed them from Week 1’s action.
Utah running back Zack Moss was one of those players, and that is understandable given his massive performance against BYU. Moss ran for 187 yards on 29 carries with a touchdown to lead the Utes to a win over an in-state rival. Moss could have entered the 2019 NFL Draft, but decided to return, which looks like a wise decision as scouts say he impressed them in Week 1.
Two linebackers were also singled out as being impressive, UCLA’s Krys Barnes and Texas Tech’s Jordyn Brooks. Barnes had 10 tackles and a pass broken up against Cincinnati, while Brooks had 11 tackles playing Montana State. Both Barnes (6-1, 235) and Brooks (6-1, 245) have NFL size and got their senior seasons started off with good production in the opener.
A lot can and will change in the weeks to come, but from Week 1 of college football Moss, Barnes and Brooks were players whp sources mentioned as impressing them.
