Trinidad Chambliss Prospect Preview
By Charlie Campbell
Career Recap:
Chambliss played four seasons at Division II Ferris State and led the Bulldogs to a national championship before transferring to Ole Miss for his senior year. An injury pushed Chambliss onto the field, and he made the most of the opportunity, leading the Rebels deep into the college football playoffs, including an epic win over Georgia. In 2025, Chambliss completed 66 percent of his passes for 3,937 yards with 22 touchdowns and three interceptions. Chambliss ran for 527 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground. After the season, Chambliss successfully sued to get another year of eligbility and return to Ole Miss.
2026 Season Outlook:
Chambliss will see a number of good opponents in 2026. There will be a ton of eyes on him on September 19th when the Rebels play LSU and former head coach Lane Kiffin. Chambliss will also see good opponents in games against Texas (Oct. 24), Georgia (Nov. 7), and Oklahoma (Nov. 14).
Prospect Summary:
As a passer, Chambliss has a quality arm that can make all the throws in the NFL and has quality accuracy and ball placement. Chambliss can zip passes into tight windows and beat coverage with the location of his passes. Chambliss throws a very catchable ball and is capable of putting air under the ball to loft in touch passes. He has above-average accuracy and can throw guys open with his ball placement. Chambliss is excellent throwing on the run and can be lethal rolling out to throw downfield or take off running. Chambliss’s background in baseball can be seen in his throwing on the run and his quick whip arm action.
Chambliss is an excellent athlete who can make big plays with his feet. With some backyard style of play and a history with baseball, Chambliss does have a lot of similarities to a young Russell Wilson. Like a young Wilson, Chambliss can adlib and make something out of nothing. Chambliss is a dynamic runner who can escape sacks, juke defenders, and has speed to rip off yards in chunks when he takes off downfield. He has excellent escapability with quick-twitch athleticism, and defenders have a hard time getting a hold of him. Chambliss is dangerous on designed runs with good vision and running instincts.
Like all college players, Chambliss has areas for improvement in the NFL. He needs to improve his field vision and get faster at working through his progressions. His scheme also had him throwing to his first read often, so he could use development with reading coverage. Chambliss also could stand to get the ball out faster on throws deep downfield. Chambliss also has physical limitations for the pro level, as he is short and light for the pro game. His height could be a problem throughout his NFL career. Some quarterbacks can overcome being short, while others are plagued by limitations from restricted vision because of their height. If Chambliss loses mobility as he ages, the height issue could become a bigger problem. Chambliss is also coming from a very simple college offense. He is going to have a learning curve to master a pro playbook, audibles, snap counts, and calling plays in the huddle.
In terms of style of play, Chambliss reminds me of the young Wilson. Wilson stopped running as much as he aged, as many quarterbacks do, but the young Wilson at Wisconsin and with Seattle was dangerous with his arm and legs. Chambliss is similar his arm talent, athleticism, and ability to make big plays in the clutch.
2027 NFL Draft Expectations:
Last year when it appeared Chambliss might be forced into the draft, NFL scouts did reports on him and were prepared for him to be in the draft. After speaking with multiple team sources, they say he could go as high as the second round and may not slip lower than the fourth round. This is a different quarterback class of course, so Chambliss’ projectino could change in the months to come. Entering the 2026 season, Chambliss looks like a potential day-two pick for the 2027 NFL Draft, but he could rise and be in the discussion with the quarterbacks that are projected to go in the first round.
