Change Team:

This page lists all the 2023 Trades for the New York Giants. I’ve listed all of the NFL Free Agent Signing Grades here, which included the trades. Because I’ve begun posting polls for the trades, I thought it would make sense to list just the NFL trades here, so archiving the voting would be easier.

October 2023 – Trades and Signings

Seahawks acquire DT Leonard Williams from Giants for 2024 second- and 2025 fifth-round draft picks
Who would have thought that the Seahawks would be such aggressive buyers at the trade deadline? Seattle, already boasting the No. 1 defense in the NFL, have gotten even better on that side of the ball in the wake of this trade.

Leonard Williams is a stellar interior defensive lineman who does it all. He’s an excellent pass rusher and can also stop the run well. The Seahawks needed one more piece on the defensive line, and Williams is a perfect fit. Surrendering a second-round pick will hurt a bit, but this trade could really put Seattle over the top in a weak conference.

As for the Giants, I like this trade for them as well. They’re obvious sellers, and they need to rebuild. Williams is 29, so by the time New York is ready to compete for a Super Bowl, he would have been too old.

August 2023 – Trades and Signings

Giants acquire LB Isaiah Simmons from Cardinals for 7th-round pick
Isaiah Simmons had many supporters in the draft community when he entered the NFL, as many people fell in love with his incredible athleticism. Some of Charlie Campbell’s sources, however, questioned if Simmons had a natural position in the pros. Those concerns came to fruition, as the Cardinals struggled to utilize Simmons properly. Simmons has struggled to cover and tackle thus far in his career.

Despite this, I love this trade for the Giants. Their defensive coordinator, Wink Martindale, loves to blitz, and that’s the one thing Simmons has done extremely well in the NFL. Simmons figures to be an intriguing asset in Martindale’s system as a pass rusher. Plus, it’s not out of the question that Simmons could be a late bloomer. He’s still just 25, so there still might be some untapped potential.

The Giants clearly won this trade. Even if Simmons fails for them, they’ve risked nothing by acquiring him. The Cardinals, on the other hand, should have figured out how to get the most out of Simmons. I’d rather have him than some meaningless seventh-round pick.

March 2023 – Trades and Signings

Giants acquire TE Darren Waller from Raiders for 3rd-round pick
This pick used to acquire Darren Waller was the one the Giants obtained for Kadarius Toney. The thought of transforming Toney into Waller seems great until you realize that Waller will turn 31 early during the 2023 season.

Still, I think this is a fine trade for the Giants because they are in win-now mode with Daniel Jones receiving a large contract. Jones desperately needed receiving help, and Waller certainly fits the bill. The only concern here is Waller’s durability. He has missed 14 total games in the past two seasons, so it remains to be seen if he can stay on the field.

With that in mind, I think the Raiders won this trade. Getting a third-round pick for a soon-to-be 31-year-old tight end with a dubious injury history makes sense, especially after acquiring a capable possession receiver earlier in the day.
