Alabama
Travis McCall, FB, Alabama
Height: 6-0. Weight: 260.
Projected 40 Time: 4.70.
Pro Day 40 Time: 5.10.
Benchx225: 20. Vertical: 28. Broad: .
Projected Round (2009): 7-FA.
1/5/09: A powerful blocking fullback-tight end. Travis McCall had just eight touches as a senior.
Andre Smith, OT/G, Alabama
Height: 6-4. Weight: 325.
Projected 40 Time: 5.26.
Combine 40 Time: DNP.
Benchx225: . Arm: 35 3/8.
Projected Round (2009): 1-2.
3/11/09: Andre Smith “trimmed” down to 325, but observers seemed to think that he looked sluggish at his Pro Day. Smith will need a miracle to make it into the top 10, and his first-round status is in serious doubt. 2/21/09: Andre Smith will not work out at the Combine, citing that he’s out of shape. Out of shape? Why is Smith out of shape? Isn’t it his job to stay in shape?
2/19/09: Andre Smith weighed in at 332 pounds at the Combine. He’ll have to play right tackle or guard in the NFL, so his draft range looks to be No. 6 (Bengals need tackle help) to No. 13 (the Redskins will not pass on an elite right tackle.
1/4/08: Andre Smith was suspended for the game against national champion Utah, but only because he talked to an agent. A few days later, Smith declared. This will not affect his draft stock.
11/1/08: Less athletic than Michael Oher and Eugene Monroe, but still very talented.
5/24/08: A unanimous All-SEC first-teamer, Andre Smith has started every game in his career at Alabama.
2007: Andre Smith is an extremely hard-worker; at the request of new head coach Nick Saban, Smith lost about 30 pounds this offseason. Even despite the fact that Smith was overweight last year, he still was the starting left tackle as a true freshman in the SEC. If Smith keeps losing weight and getting quicker, he’ll shoot up this list.
Nick Walker, TE, Alabama
Height: 6-5. Weight: 256.
Projected 40 Time: 4.86.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.97.
Benchx225: 14. Vertical: 31.
Projected Round (2009): FA.
1/5/09: After a somewhat impressive start, Nick Walker struggled, finishing with 32 receptions, 324 yards and two scores.
10/26/08: Nick Walker has emerged as a solid target for John Parker Wilson, catching 23 passes for 232 yards and two touchdowns.
5/23/08: Alabama doesn’t utilize its tight ends much in the passing game, so don’t take it to mean that Nick Walker’s 23 receptions and 204 yards were a disappointment.
2007: In two games, Nick Walker recorded three receptions, 39 yards and a touchdown.
Maryland
Kevin Barnes, CB, Maryland
Height: 6-0. Weight: 187.
Projected 40 Time: 4.43.
Combine 40 Time: 4.52.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.45.
Benchx225: . Vertical: 41.
Projected Round (2009): 4-5.
1/13/09: Now two months removed from shoulder surgery. Pretty bad timing for an injury.
12/13/08: Kevin Barnes missed the second half of the season with a shoulder injury. Barnes finished with two picks, five passes broken up and a blocked kick.
5/17/08: Kevin Barnes had four picks in 2007. One of the tallest corners (6-1) in this class.
Chase Bullock, ILB, Maryland
Height: 6-3. Weight: 235.
Projected 40 Time: 4.69.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.59.
Benchx225: 26. Vertical: 34.
Projected Round (2009): FA.
Scott Burley, OT, Maryland
Height: 6-5. Weight: 335.
Projected 40 Time: 5.37.
Pro Day 40 Time: 5.45.
Benchx225: 19.
Projected Round (2009): 7-FA.
1/6/09: Able to play both guard and right tackle, Scott Burley was an All-ACC honorable mention.
5/24/08: Despite being hampered by ankle injuries throughout the season, people thought enough of Scott Burley to vote him on the All-ACC second team. Burley should be able to play right tackle and guard at the next level.
Moise Fokou, OLB, Maryland
Height: 6-1. Weight: 233.
Projected 40 Time: 4.70.
Combine 40 Time: 4.76.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Benchx225: 21. Vertical: 33.
Projected Round (2009): 7-FA.
Jeremy Navarre, DE, Maryland
Height: 6-3. Weight: 285.
Projected 40 Time: 4.92.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Benchx225: 36. Vertical: .
Projected Round (2009): 6-7.
1/9/09: Jeremy Navarre completed his senior campaign with 7.5 TFL and 2.5 sacks.
11/16/08: A 3-4 end who can get to the quarterback occasionally.
5/7/08: If Jeremy Navarre can get his 40 down, he’ll shoot up this board. He had 4.5 sacks in 13 starts in 2007.
Jaimie Thomas, G, Maryland
Height: 6-4. Weight: 323.
Projected 40 Time: 5.24.
Combine 40 Time: 5.22.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Benchx225: 26. Arm: 35.
Projected Round (2009): 6.
1/8/09: After enduring injuries in 2007, Jaimie Thomas came back to start every game in 2008. He was an All-ACC honorable mention.
Isaiah Williams, WR, Maryland
Height: 6-2. Weight: 205.
Projected 40 Time: 4.48.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.38.
Vertical: 41. Broad: .
Projected Round (2009): 7-FA.
3/11/09: Had just 10 catches for 125 yards and a touchdown, but his amazing Pro Day numbers may put him on the radar.
BYU
Travis Bright, BYU
Height: 6-5. Weight: 316.
Projected 40 Time: 5.30.
Combine 40 Time: 5.29.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Benchx225: 35. Arm: 33 7/8.
Projected Round (2009): 5.
1/8/09: Part of a solid offensive line, Travis Bright was named to the All-Mountain West Second Team.
11/2/08: Travis Bright isn’t letting his age go to waste; he’s one of the leaders on a BYU team that was considered a national title contender prior to its loss to TCU.
5/25/08: Travis Bright is way older than everyone in this class because he served on a church mission. He’ll be able to play quickly, but his potential is limited.
Austin Collie, WR, BYU
Height: 6-1. Weight: 200.
Projected 40 Time: 4.52.
Combine 40 Time: 4.55.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.53.
Vertical: . Broad: .
Projected Round (2009): 4-5.
1/10/09: Arguably the best receiver in BYU history, Austin Collie has declared a year early for the NFL Draft. Collie caught 106 passes for 1,538 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior. He also returned kicks on a 27-yard average.
7/26/08: Despite missing two games, Austin Collie led BYU in receiving yardage (946) and qualified for the All-Mountain West second team. Collie was also solid as a return specialist.
Dallas Reynolds, BYU
Height: 6-5. Weight: 328.
Projected 40 Time: 5.30.
Pro Day 40 Time: 5.28.
Benchx225: 20.
Projected Round (2009): 7.
1/8/09: Voted to the All-Mountain West First Team, Dallas Reynolds was the leader of a unit that blocked for one of the top offenses in the nation.
5/24/08: In addition to having solid workout numbers, Dallas Reynolds can play four positions on the line. He’s also reliable; Reynolds has 37 consecutive starts.
Fui Vakapuna, FB, BYU
Height: 6-1. Weight: 254.
Projected 40 Time: 4.73.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.83.
Benchx225: 29. Vertical: 34. Broad: 9-2.
Projected Round (2009): 7-FA.
1/5/09: Fui Vakapuna rushed for 263 yards and three touchdowns on 54 carries as a senior. He also caught 10 balls.
5/26/08: Fui Vakapuna missed four games with a broken hand in 2007. He averaged 3.5 yards per carry in 2007.
2007: I’ll be surprised if Fui Vakapuna is drafted. He’s small, and turns 25 prior to the 2009 Draft. His yards-per-carry average of three against Arizona doesn’t help.
Kentucky
Marcus McClinton, FS, Kentucky
Height: 6-0. Weight: 210.
Projected 40 Time: 4.51.
Combine 40 Time: 4.56.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.49.
Benchx225: 18. Vertical: .
Projected Round (2009): 6-7.
1/14/09: Marcus McClinton notched four interceptions in 2008. It’s too bad he has off-the-field issues.
5/19/08: Missed a bunch of time in 2007 with multiple injuries. Marcus McClinton has yet to blowed anyone up, as far as I know.
2007: Calling Marcus McClinton explosive is an understatement; last summer, McClinton was charged with making explosives from household products. But look on the bright side – if he can’t play safety in the NFL, you can always hire him to blow the opposing quarterback up. And that way, Emmitt can say, “That quarterback got blowed up!”
Myron Pryor, DT, Kentucky
Height: 6-0. Weight: 319.
Projected 40 Time: 5.05.
Combine 40 Time: 5.01.
Pro Day 40 Time: DNP.
Benchx225: 24. Vertical: 30.
Projected Round (2009): 6-7.
1/10/09: Thanks to 11 TFL and 4.5 sacks, Myron Pryor was elected to the All-SEC Second Team.
11/23/08: Leg and ankle injuries have slowed down Myron Pryor. Once a first-round candidate, Pryor may not be drafted.
5/9/08: Myron Pryor had a bit of a disappointing junior campaign, but his combination of size and speed will get him drafted in the first three rounds.
2007: Started 10 games as a sophomore and recorded four sacks and four forced fumbles. Has the potential to be a top-15 selection come 2009.
Fresno State
Bear Pascoe, TE, Fresno State
Height: 6-5. Weight: 251.
Projected 40 Time: 4.83.
Combine 40 Time: 4.97.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.89.
Benchx225: 14. Vertical: 30.5.
Projected Round (2009): 6-7.
1/5/09: Bear Pascoe registered 40 receptions and 400 yards. He also stole four pic-a-nic baskets (i.e. four touchdowns).
10/26/08: Bear Pascoe has missed some time with an ankle injury this season. Through five games, Pascoe had 20 catches for 180 yards and two touchdowns. I just find it odd that someone named Bear would be ruled out of a game because of a stupid thing like an ankle injury. Come on, Bear! Live up to your name!
5/23/08: The Bear improved tremendously in 2007, collecting 45 receptions, 553 yards and four touchdowns. He also ate nine defenders.
2007: New rule: If you have a guy named “Bear” on your team, you automatically win 10 games. No questions asked. The Bear was fourth on the Bulldogs with 22 catches and second with 307 receiving yards.
Oklahoma State
Jacob Lacey, CB, Oklahoma State
Height: 5-10. Weight: 177.
Projected 40 Time: 4.46.
Pro Day 40 Time: 4.45.
Benchx225: 11. Vertical: 41.
Projected Round (2009): 7-FA.
12/13/08: A solid player on Oklahoma State’s putrid defense, Jacob Lacey broke up 13 passes, qualifying for the All-Big XII Second Team.
5/17/08: Picked off five passes in 2007 – the most interceptions any Cowboy has had since the late Darrent Williams (6) in 2003.
