Stock Up :
Kory Sheets, RB, Purdue: Sheets displayed better speed than anticipated and did a solid job catching the football. I thought he was a late-round picking going up, but he might have worked his way up to the fourth round.
Brandon Gibson, WR, Washington State: Gibson ran the sharpest routes in Mobile and really impressed me. He gets out of his routes quickly and gains separation. I think he is the most underrated receiver in the 2009 NFL Draft. Don’t be shocked when he is a second-round pick.
Juaquin Iglesias and Brian Robiskie, WRs: Both displayed very solid route running and hands. I am still concerned with Robiskie’s ability to separate, but they both had great weeks in Mobile.
William Beatty, T, Connecticut: Beatty displayed very quick feet in Mobile and has the frame to pack on weight. He played himself into the first round if his intangibles check out.
Alex Mack, C, California: In the battle for the No. 1 center spot, Mack clearly won out just like I projected since last summer. Mike Mayock needs to explain his bias against Mack (his No. 3 center). I do not get it.
Larry English, DE/OLB, Northern Illinois: Proved he belongs with the big boys in Mobile. I was not surprised at all by his athleticism and competitive attitude, which I saw on tape. Did a solid job in linebacker coverage drills.
B.J. Raji, DT, Boston College: Raji dominated in Senior Bowl week and an inside source tells me the scouts and general managers think he is a top-10 pick.
Coye Francies, CB, San Jose State: I do not understand why he isn’t getting as much publicity as Leodis McKelvin and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie last year. Francies was the most physical corner and showed very good speed.
Darius Butler, CB, Connecticut : Most instinctual corner in Mobile and had a knack for jumping routes.
Patrick Chung, S, Oregon: Chung had very good instincts in Mobile and showed an ability to eliminate space on the field.
Stock Down :
All the Quarterbacks: They were all terrible. Don’t buy into the Pat White hype. He consistently overthrew receivers in practices and has the body of a point guard. Rhett Bomar has some upside to be a starter with a good coaching staff and patience, but he played poorly.
Herman Johnson, G, LSU: Generated a ton of hype once he carried 382 pounds well at the weigh-in, but he was a severe disappointment.
Ramses Barden, WR, Cal Poly: Struggled to get off the line of scrimmage. Looked uncoordinated and not athletic.
Derrick Williams, WR, Penn State: Terrible ball skills. Bad route running. I was not impressed with Williams and I think everyone is wrong who is hyping him up to be something he is not. There is a reason he wasn’t productive at Penn State, and it was his lack of natural receiving skills.
Rey Maualuga, ILB, USC: Did not perform up to the top-10 expectations.
William Moore, S, Missouri: Like Maualuga, William Moore did not show much of a burst and struggled to cover. I still think he is the top strong safety in the 2009 NFL Draft.
Louie Sakoda, K, Utah: Displayed a weak leg and is unlikely to be drafted.
