2013 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Tim Hardaway Jr.


Position: Shooting Guard

Size: 6-6, 200

School: Michigan, Junior


Strengths:

Ideal size for an NBA two guard

Three-point shooting

Catch-and-shoot ability

Mid-range jumper

Doesn’t force shots when playing off the ball

Straight-line driver with his right hand

Finishing through contact

Underrated athleticism/explosiveness at times

Potential to be solid role player

Weaknesses:

Creating his own offense

Shot selection gets questionable when he has to create for himself

Taking defenders off the bounce in iso situations

Driving to his left

Inconsistent outside shooter

Average defender

Summary: The knock on Hardaway Jr. is that he doesn’t excel with any one particular area of his game. However, he is a solid all-around player and if the former Wolverine lands on the right team, could be a solid reserve. Hardaway Jr. figures to land somewhere in the late first round, but could slip into the second.

Player Comparison: Brandon Rush. Like Rush, Hardaway Jr. doesn’t blow anyone away with his game but has proven to be a solid role player in the right situation. Rush has shown more consistency with his 3-point shooting than Hardaway Jr., and if Tim’s kid is going to have a steady NBA career, becoming more reliable with his shooting stroke will help him possibly carve out a career similar to Rush’s.
