San Antonio Spurs (Last Year: 62-20)

2013-14 Season Summary:
The San Antonio Spurs proved there they still had plenty of gas in the tank by adding another championship ring to their dynasty. This was San Antonio’s fifth NBA Title in the Gregg Popovich era. The Spurs were led by their own Big Three of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Manu Ginobli, but the franchise has done a fabulous job of surrounding those veterans with solid role player like NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard.

If the Spurs plan on successfully defending their championship next season, they must make a few minor moves this summer that accentuate their team concept and unselfish style of play.

2014-15 Projected Depth Chart:

C: Tiago Splitter

PF: Tim Duncan/Jeff Ayres/Aaron Baynes

SF: Kawhi Leonard/Manu Ginobli

SG: Danny Green/Marco Belinelli

PG: Tony Parker/Cory Joseph

NBA Free Agents:

PF-Boris Diaw (UFA)

PG-Patty Mills (UFA)

PF-Matt Bonner (UFA)

SF-Austin Daye (TO)

2014-15 Team Salary: Approximately $53 million

NBA Offseason Team Needs:

1. Frontcourt Depth: With Boris Diaw and Matt Bonner both free agents, the Spurs need to improve their frontcourt depth. San Antonio should be able to sign Diaw for a fairly cheap rate, but adding a younger talent inside would help as well since both Diaw and Duncan are nearing the end of their careers.

2. Re-sign Mills: The Spurs have been smart in recent years by cutting back on Parker’s playing time. While San Antonio has Cory Joseph to serve as a backup, re-signing free agent Patty Mills should be a priority as well – if the price is right. If Mills heads elsewhere, adding another point guard should be a priority.
