Atlanta Hawks: Lucas Nogueira, C, Brazil – B Grade
The Hawks moved up two spots and also got Jared Cunningham from Dallas for the 18th and 44th picks. Nogueira is a project big guy who can be a shot blocker/rim protector right now, but is nowhere near ready to contribute offensively and is also rail thin. This is a “hope it pays off down the road” selection, which is okay for an Atlanta team that is re-building.

Atlanta Hawks: Dennis Schroeder, G, Germany – B Grade
This is a solid value pick as the Hawks are trending to become an entirely foreign team now with Nogueira and Schroeder. Jeff Teague is a restricted free agent and Devin Harris is likely gone this offseason, so Atlanta does need a point guard, and I liked what I saw from Schroeder at the Nike Hoops Summit. -
Dallas Maveriks: Shane Larkin, PG, Miami – B+ Grade
Dallas moved back five picks, dumped a salary in Jared Cunningham, picked up some future second-round picks, and got Shane Larkin. That’s some pretty productive movement. With Darren Collison and Roddy Beaubois both restricted free agents, Shane Larkin is a good fit and a good value here. -
Cleveland Cavaliers: Sergey Karasev, SG, Russia – A Grade
There was talk heading into the 2013 NBA Draft that Karasev was not slipping past the late lottery, so for a Cavaliers team in need of a wing who can shoot the ball from deep, this is a perfect fit. It doesn’t make up for the Bennett mind-blower, but is still a great pick-up. -
Chicago Bulls: Tony Snell, F, New Mexico – B+ Grade
I actually really like this pick for the Bulls since Snell has the potential to be a great perimeter defender, plus he can shoot the rock. It was really a tossup here between him, Reggie Bullock, Allen Crabbe, and Tim Hardaway, Jr.. I would have given all of those guys a solid grade here. -
Minnesota Timberwolves: Gorgui Dieng, C, Louisville – A- Grade
I’m kind of surprised Minnesota didn’t take a shooter here, but the team still has another first-round pick. Nikola Pekovic is a restricted free agent, so Dieng provides insurance in case he leaves. Either way, Dieng is an athletic shot blocker and should be a quality backup if Pek does return. -
Brooklyn Nets: Mason Plumlee, C, Duke – A Grade
I can’t believe I’m giving a Plumlee an “A” grade after I gave Miles Plumlee an “F-” last year. With the Nets likely trading Kris Humphries and Reggie Evans to Boston as part of the deal that will bring Kevin Garnett to Brooklyn, there is a need for depth up front. Even if the trade doesn’t go through, the Nets could use frontcourt help and Plumlee can at the very least be a solid reserve. -
Indiana Pacers: Solomon Hill, F, Arizona – D Grade
Two reaches in a row for the Pacers. I gave Miles Plumlee an “F-” as a first-round pick last year, and while I’m a big Arizona guy and think Hill can be a role player, this is a major reach at No. 23 since he was a projected mid-second-round pick. -
New York Knicks: Tim Hardaway, Jr., SG, Michigan – B+ Grade
This is a good value for the Knicks. They had a variety of shooting guards to choose from with Crabbe, Franklin, Bullock and Hardaway, Jr. all available. Hardaway, Jr. could potentially help replace J.R. Smith, who will opt out of his contract and become a free agent. -
Los Angeles Clippers: Reggie Bullock, F, North Carolina – A Grade
This is a great get for the Clippers considering Bullock was supposedly rising up boards and could have gone as high as the late teens. He has good size, athleticism, and can shoot the rock. L.A. a hole at small forward with Matt Barnes a free agent and Grant Hill retiring, so this is the perfect insurance policy. -
Oklahoma City Thunder: Andre Roberson, F, Colorado – D Grade
So Oklahoma City traded up from No. 29 to the Warriors at No. 26 – they bought the pick from Minnesota in the first place. Confused? Roberson needs to develop his outside shot since he is a small forward and not a power forward at the NBA level. He is a great athlete and can rebound the basketball, but it seems like a reach at No. 26, especially when the Thunder traded up to get him. -
Utah Jazz: Rudy Gobert, C, France – A- Grade
Utah bought this pick from Denver and gets a 7-2 big guy with a huge 7-9 wingspan. This is more than likely a draft-and-stash option for the Jazz, but a really good value since Gobert has lottery potential. Utah is also also probably losing Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap to free agency, so the team needs size inside. -
San Antonio Spurs: Livio Jean-Charles, F, French Guiana – B- Grade
This is such a Spurs pick. San Antonio has past success in drafting foreign players and keeping them overseas, which will likely happen with Jean-Charles. He performed well at the Nike Hoops Summit and brings energy and athleticism to the floor, though it might take him a year or two to actually get to the NBA. -
Phoenix Suns: Archie Goodwin, G, Kentucky – B+ Grade
I think Archie Goodwin is one of the guys in this draft who came out too early but in a few years will be a solid player (think Lance Stephenson.) Once Goodwin develops a jumper and gets stronger the potential is certainly there, so for a re-building Suns team, why not roll the dice at this point. -
Golden State Warriors: Nemanja Nedovic, G, Serbia – C Grade
Ummmm … sure? I guess the Warriors must have REALLY liked this dude since they traded into the first round and then moved back four spots to select him. Nedovic won’t be in the NBA anytime soon, but he is another perimeter weapon for the future on a team that loves to run and gun.
