In free agency next month, Green Bay Packers quarterback Malik Willis figures to be the most sought-after signal caller to fill a starting quarterback spot for a needy team. There have been media reports of Willis drawing interest from the Miami Dolphins, Arizona Cardinals, New York Jets, and Cleveland Browns in recent weeks. Speaking with sources here at the NFL Scouting Combine, it sounds like there is significant mutual interest between Willis and the Miami Dolphins.
Sources say that people around Willis think that Miami is where he will end up, and he is very interested in the Dolphins. Willis knows the regime is comfortable with head coach Jeff Hafley and general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan. Hafley was the defensive coordinator of the Packers last season, and Sullivan was the vice president of player personnel. Sources say that Miami is interested in signing Willis, and there are some significant roadblocks to navigate in order to make it happen. It sounds like the Dolphins are likely to cut veteran starter Tua Tagovailoa as a post-June 1 cut and spread the $99 million dead cap hit over two seasons. Willis is going to be highly sought after in free agency, and given the Dolphins’ cap situation, it might work out that he gets a better deal with another team. Sources say there are a lot of moving parts, but strong interest is there from both sides.
The Dolphins also could look to the draft to find a quarterback to replace Tagovailoa. However, in my latest 2026 NFL Mock Draft, I have them going a different route while projecting them to solve the quarterback position in free agency. Willis might be that solution, as there is a lot of mutual interest between him and Miami.
