2012 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Doron Lamb

Position: Shooting Guard

Size: 6-4, 210

School: Kentucky, Sophomore

Strengths:
  • Three-point shooting
  • Mid-range game
  • Catch-and-shoot ability
  • Pull-up jumper
  • Moves well off the ball, especially coming off screens
  • Effectively utilizes runner in the lane
  • Free-throw shooter
  • Capable ball-handler
  • Decision-maker; doesn’t force much
  • Basketball IQ
  • Solid defender

    Weaknesses:
  • Needs to get stronger
  • Attacking the basket
  • Finishing strong in the paint
  • Taking defenders off the bounce in iso situations
  • Lacks ideal NBA athleticism

Summary: Lamb was one of the better pure shooters in college basketball this past season. That is where he can make his biggest impact at the next level; being a shooter off the bench. I am not sure his role will be anything more than that though, which is why he projects as a late first-round pick.

Player Comparison: Leandro Barbosa. Despite being undersized, Barbosa has had a successful NBA career coming off the bench as a scorer. Lamb will likely fill a similar role on whichever team he ends up on, and like Barbosa, he has a great touch as a shooter.
