2011 NBA Draft Scouting Report: Brandon Knight

Position: Point Guard

Size: 6-3, 183

School: Kentucky, Freshman

Strengths:
  • Great playmaker
  • Terrific in the open court
  • Quickness
  • Blow-by first step
  • Utilizes floater in the lane
  • Three-point shooter
  • Quick release on his jumper
  • Creating his own shot
  • Plays very hard on the defensive end
  • Potential to be a lockdown perimeter defender
  • High character off the court

    Weaknesses:
  • Turnover prone
  • Forces the issue too often
  • Still learning to be a true point guard
  • Needs to get a little stronger

Summary: Brandon Knight is a scoring point guard who will need to become a better pure floor leader to reach his potential at the next level. He is the next in line of John Calipari-coached point guards to likely be one-and-done and should be a top-20 pick.

Player Comparison: Gilbert Arenas. Knight reminds me of a young Gilbert Arenas – a scoring point guard who is not a true floor general. Both guys can stroke it from deep but also get to the basket. I think Knight is more capable of developing into a true point guard, something that Arenas has never done at the next level.
