With the 2019 NFL Draft in the books, it is only fair to dish out some awards for a job well done by a number of teams across the NFL. It also doesn’t hurt to look at which teams may have made regrettable picks.

Best Value Pick Round 1: New York Jets: Quinnen Williams, DT, Alabama
Typically, I’m looking in the middle to back portion of the first round for the best value, but this was an odd draft where the best value came close to the top. Quinnen Williams was the best player in the draft hands down. That wasn’t just my opinion, but that’s who was the consensus highest-graded player across the teams around the league. Landing the best player in the draft with the third-overall pick is an excellent value for the Jets.
For the NFL, Williams is a rare prospect with his interior pass-rush ability. He could be one of those rare NFL defensive tackles who is capable of generating multiple seasons of double-digit sacks. He has shocking quickness, natural strength to toss blockers to the side, great pad level, leverage and instincts. Williams also is a quality run defender.
I think Williams could be a franchise defensive player similar to Aaron Donald. He has the potential to be one of the best interior pass-rushers in the league. The scary thing with Williams is he is just scratching the surface of his ability. He dominated in 2018, which was his first year of significant playing time. He could be better once he has more experience and gets more reps to refine his play. The idea of Williams being even better than what he showed in 2018 is mind blowing, and if that happens, he could end up being a legendary player.
Honorable Mentions: Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver, Green Bay Packers defensive end Rashan Gary, Washington Redskins quarterback Dwayne Haskins, Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, Washington Redskins defensive end Montez Sweat and Oakland Raiders running back Josh Jacobs.
