With the 2018 NFL Draft in the books, it is only fair to dish out some awards for a job well done by a number of teams across the NFL. It also doesn’t hurt to look at which teams may have made regrettable picks.

Best Undrafted Free Agent Signing: New England Patriots: J.C. Jackson, CB, Maryland
The Patriots have had a long history of undrafted players making their roster and earning prominent roles. New England lost former Super Bowl hero Malcolm Butler, as the veteran cornerback signed with Tennessee, but Jackson could keep the tradition alive because he is very talented. Jackson is a really good player with excellent tape from college. He is a fast and athletic corner who does a superb job of running the route to prevent separation. In 2017, Jackson totaled 40 tackles with seven passes broken up and three interceptions. He totaled 40 tackles with six breakups and a pick in 2016.

The only reason that Jackson didn’t get drafted was because of character concerns, but those incidents were many years ago at the University of Florida and Jackson did not have any character issues at Maryland during the past few years. His coaches spoke well of him to NFL scouts. It wouldn’t surprise me if Jackson (5-10, 200) ends up being a steal as an undrafted free agent of the same caliber as Butler.

Honorable mentions: Denver Broncos linebacker Jeff Holland, Chicago Bears cornerback Kevin Toliver, Oakland Raiders kicker Eddy Pineiro and Washington Redskins wide receiver Simmie Cobbs.

2017 Winner: Fish Smithson, Redskins
2016 Winner: Geronimo Allison, Packers
2015 Winner: Akeem Hunt, Giants
2014 Winner: Antonio Richardson, Vikings
2013 Winner: Chase Thomas, Saints
2012 Winner: James Brown, Bears
