2017 NFL Mock Draft Results

With the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft in the books, we can check the results of how the prominent mock drafts fared.

Charlie Campbell nailed nine correct selections with his mock draft. Not included in that sum is Evan Engram to the Giants in the second round. Nine correct picks in such an uncertain mock draft is an excellent score, as you’ll see.

I didn’t fare as well. If I had kept my Thursday morning mock, I would’ve hit eight picks in my 2017 NFL Mock Draft, which I would’ve been thrilled with. However, I made the following changes at 4 p.m.:

  • Solomon Thomas from 49ers to Bears
  • Charles Harris from Dolphins to Colts
  • Taco Charlton from Cowboys to Lions

That’s what I get for second-guessing myself. I had five correct picks as a result, and I thought that was a horrible number until I saw the other scores.

Here is how all of the prominent 2017 NFL Mock Drafts scored (if I’m missing someone’s mock, please e-mail me):

    Charlie Campbell – 9
    Daniel Jeremiah – 8
    Peter King – 7
    Lance Zierlein – 6
[Name redacted for multiple journalism ethics violations] – 6
    Walter Cherepinsky – 5
    Mike Mayock – 5
    Scott Wright – 5
    Bucky Brooks – 4
    Todd McShay – 4
    Josh Norris – 4
    Tony Pauline – 4
    Pete Prisco – 4
    Rob Rang – 4
    Pete Schraeger – 4
    Dane Brugler – 3
    Chad Reuter – 3
    Charley Casserly – 2
    Mel Kiper – 2
    Bob McGinn – 2

It was not a good night for ESPN, as you can see. Todd McShay and Mel Kiper both slotted Mitchell Trubisky to the Browns early in the day. McShay changed his pick around 4 p.m., and I have no idea when Kiper did his ninja edit because he still had Trubisky No. 1 overall at 5 p.m.

It was surprising as well to see McGinn hit just two correct picks. McGinn is usually one of the more-accurate mock drafters out there, but he slotted Trubisky to Cleveland as well, so he didn’t get the “free” correct pick at the top.

It’s hard to blame anyone for scoring poorly, as this draft was crazy. However, Charlie deserves a great deal of credit for nailing nine correct picks, as the sourced information he provides is impeccable.
